Woo! That’s my former editing professor / colleague / friend Carol Dysinger.

Give the adapted screenplay Oscar to Greta, please!

Damn, look at the category for actors in a supporting role. Some support.

Brad Pitt is going to the overwhelming favorite. Everyone else in that category already has their own Oscar statue (or statues, in Hanks’ case), and two of them will split their vote because they’re in the same movie.

Yeah, I guess Matthew Rhys is considered to have the lead role in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. What are the odds that Tom Hanks doesn’t win?

Can’t rule it out, but Brad Pitt is seen as the favorite. He’s never won an Oscar, he’s one of the biggest movie stars in the world, he’s loved by everyone in Hollywood, and everyone feels he’s due, And as I just noted above your post, everyone else in that category already owns an Oscar, so the voters can figure it’s not so bad if they lose this time around. The early indicators are pointing his way. For example, he won the Golden Globe and the National Society of Film Critics Awards.

Frozen 2 was robbed! Knives Out was basically robbed! (but thanks to it, I have technically seen an Oscar nominated film from 2019)

Except maybe Angelina Jolie.

Wait, what? Antonio Banderas is acting again? And nominated for an Oscar for best actor? Now I’m going to have to find out what Pain and Glory is.

Give Thomas Newman a best score Oscar already, he’s ludicrously overdue!

I’ve actually seen a good bit of these this year. I’m not sure how that happened!

I can’t believe Brad Pitt doesn’t already have an Oscar. Wow, I really liked the character he played in the one he’s nominated for this year. He did a good job in that role. I hope he wins.

I have a feeling Greta Gerwig is in for a big night.

What a shame that Greta Gerwig isn’t nominated for Best Director.

My gut says that Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is going to snag a lot of awards out from under Joker, but we’ll see.

Surprising showing by The Two Popes, too!

EDIT: And, oh man, did Uncut Gems get totally snubbed?? It did!

Pattinson, Dafoe, and Sandler seem like the biggest snubs to me.

I really need to see Little Women, though. Heard nothing but fantastic things about it.

The sheer amount of Joker in this list is pretty surprising, less because it’s a superhero thing than because I didn’t think it had been all that well received.

Oh no!

Best Song Oscar noms always have the most generic sounding titles.

There is nothing Oscar voters love more than movies about Hollywood and movies. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is going to get several awards.

And yet Dolemite completely snubbed. Not even a hair and makeup or costume design nomination.

I’m pulling for Scarlett Johansson for Best Supporting Actress. She was so great in Jojo Rabbit!
