PlayStation 5

It’s limited in terms of true system exclusives, which is the main consideration for anyone who already has an XSX or a capable gaming PC and is considering supplementing it with a PS5.

But for anyone who is still on an older system, you’re never going to hit that wall. Even if you run out of exclusives you care about, you’ll be glad for the graphical and load-time upgrades on last-gen or multiplatform games.

Also if you didn’t have a PS4 there’s a plethora of high quality exclusives to go back and play.

I agree with you. It’s a great system and even with the current library it’s a no brainer. I’m just saying people who are thinking about dropping hundreds of dollars over retail to buy it should consider these things and maybe temper their hype until there are more games out.

Dokev to the mun. It’s gonna be huge I bet.

For people who are trying to get one I will share my success story in case it gives someone any help or hope.

This discord server is what used. It’s called Sarumonin’s house and I think I had googled to find it.

I had more luck on there than on Twitter because I was sitting on my computer at work most of the day and if an alert popped up and I wasn’t in the middle of something, I could click on it really quickly. The Twitter channels never really alerted me fast enough, and there are so many more people on there competing at that very same second. The discord is tracking multiple sites with bots and often can alert you just as fast and sometimes faster.

I got mine at the end of June after trying with various levels of intensity for almost 2 months. I got it through antonline, which was not a site I had heard of before this but had a good experience. It also meant I had to buy an expensive bundle and get a digital PS5 which was not exactly my preference. But the bundle had all good stuff that I have found very worth the money. The official PS5 Pulse wireless headset (which I wasn’t sure I wanted but now would find it hard to live without), a controller dock, an extra controller, a year of PSPlus, and a media remote. The only thing I can take or leave is the remote but even that I find preferable for Spotify/YouTube compared to my Fire stick.

As for experiences on the different sites, Best Buy was a frustrating mess, Walmart sold extremely quickly, I got very close with Target once but they were only doing infrequent earlyish morning drops. I’m not sure I ever even saw an Amazon drop and I probably wasn’t available for any of GameStops because I don’t remember trying. Also make sure to try for all of the randomized PS Store queues. I suspect the odds may be very low but at least it doesn’t rely on speed and you’ll have fair warning. Antonline was never really on my radar and I hadn’t even made an account before buying but the checkout process was smooth after a tense battle with Capcha. PayPal is recommended for checkout on all of the sites based on the theory that credit card processing is bogged down getting the bulk of the transactions.

Unfortunately I had never updated my PayPal address after my last move and I ended up shipping it 3 hours away to an old address in NJ. Had to make a hard decision whether to cancel the order or make that journey on a weekday. It sucked but it was ultimately worth it to be free from the hunt.

The HZD patch seems to have broken the audio for the 30 FPS cutscenes. I can confirm that it’s happened with me.

I just followed Matt Swider on Twitter and turned alerts on.

On his third tweet, I was able to get a Digital Edition on Sony’s site. Hit the queue and it went from 60 minutes to 1 minute about a minute after I logged in. Less than a week after I followed him.

Which reminds me, I need to turn off the alerts for him now. :)

This is a crapshoot. Your place in queue is entirely randomized and I never had any luck. I’d get into the store after an hour or so, but the consoles would already be gone. But yeah, if you get lucky it’s probably the best way to buy one.

Unless they’ve changed things, you aren’t IP limited or anything in entering the queue, so you can open up several different browser windows to get multiple spots. This is how I got mine. It does do a CAPTCHA thing every so often to make sure you aren’t a bot, but that wasn’t a problem for me to handle with 6 windows open.

Also, he tweets other availability besides just Sony – he alerted to Amazon and Target drops this week.

you stupid fool! I did it, went to ebay, did the walk click of shame and paid 650 (150 more than regular) with disc drive… Mainly to upgrade my old games, play Control Ultimate at 60 FPS and Demons Souls. With the run on the holidays, I lost all hope to find a PS5 in the wild this year…

Not sure how much scalping had influence on availability. If this is the future for all new console launches, then MS, Sony and the big retailers need to fix this…

If I don’t get one by 9/14 when Deathloop comes out, StockX for me…dammit. I’m on damn Twitter all day following every single darn stock tweeter…got one for my kid 2 months ago but just cannot snag one again for me. I hate to spend 750 on a diskless version but the kid is constantly making fun of me that I dont have one…so I take hers or buy a scalped one…ugh.

I have to hope the only reason stock is so low one year after release is because of the chip shortage. It seems promising that even then, some months ago Sony was saying they were on track to sell more PS5s in the first year than they had with PS4s. Given how I agree the PS5 still feels unnecessary (but very nice) to own, I’m a little surprised there remains a scalper market. Maybe the GPU prices also influence this.

They are ahead of where they were with PS4. Demand is extremely high. It’s not about chip shortage. It’s about people buying PlayStation 5 consoles and more people wanting them so much they can’t even get them to shelves.

it’s the same with Series X btw… Must be a combination of high demand, pandemic, chip shortages, and scalpers. It’s like tulip fever all over again!

Sony show next Thursday

Ooooh, maybe a first look at the new God of War. I wouldn’t mind seeing more car porn in Gran Turismo either.

Just picked up the PS5 from my postal box. How many kilos weighs this sucker? We are all nerd weaklings, how should we carry these things?? This must be like the heaviest console I ever bought. I did the walk of shame and hauled it home.

I felt a little sad when I disconnected my base PS4.

updating …

Just got an email notice that my PS5 is out for delivery.

My new PS5 has been transferring save files from my PS4 over WiFi for about 4 hours now.
