Republic of Rome forum game

Of course we all love Rome, but I got nuthin.

Rome should be frugal, self-sustaining, and leave her families and their property alone. No contributions.

Rome needs me not. What, do you expect some Phonecian cast offs bordering some desert to suddenly threaten Rome? I think not!

Forgive. Five talents to remain with Jerry Cornelius, 2 to the faction treasury.

There is nothing to forgive, you can’t be here all the time.

Here’s a recap of the faction positions at the end of the income phase:

I’m going to make the wild assumption that Juan doesn’t actually want to spend all that money for 1 influence and move straight on.

Forum Phase

First turn belongs to @Panzeh, who draws a faction card.

You may now, in order:

  • Make a persuasion attempt
  • Attempt to attract a knight (OR pressure as many existing knights for funds as you wish)
  • Change faction leader
  • Choose a senator to sponsor games:
    7 talents => +1 popularity, -1 unrest
    11 talents => +2 popularity, -2 unrest
    18 talents => +3 popularity, -3 unrest

Obviously most of that is irrelevant on this turn.

I am guessing a lot of door #2 this turn…

Yep, not spending cash on that.

Point of order!

What about 1.07.2 INITIATIVE SEQUENCE? Does he dice first to see if he draws an event card?

Edit: 5 or a billion years ago (I forget), I decided that Colonel Kilgore was my avatar everywhere, no changing, and that was that. This game has me sorely tempted to put on a Roman mask.

Yes, I did the roll but was eliding it as it’s entirely a mechanical effect.

You could literally photoshop on a Roman mask, for the best of both worlds.

Roger that, just being first turn persnickety.

I offer 500 Quatloos to the man who will photoshop a Roman mask on my Kilgore.

Napalm odore tamquam victoriam.

500 quatloos is not enough!

Claudius spends 5 to attract a knight.

Juan, you are my hero.

The Aviators really are the piece d resistance.

Wow, that’s very good. Fortunately, Wing Commander 2 guy kind of already looks like he’s wearing a mask.

Awesome photoshop skills.

With 5 talents, Claudius can attract a knight without risk.

Next up is @CraigM who makes an unfortunate comment in front of a visiting dignitary and kicks off the First Gallic War! This goes straight into the active wars box.

The war has an army strength of 10 but requires neither fleet support nor a naval battle.
Disaster on 13, Standoff on 15. Spoils of war are 20 talents plus the province of Gallia Cisalpina.
This is the first of three Gallic wars, but the only one in the current deck.

@CraigM: same procedure as before.

As I have but one initiative to give, I will recruit a knight. 5 talents please, and the amphoras are full and waiting over here

Also it surprise surprise me not that the Gallic brutes have shown their uncivilized nature. So the fates must decree after my jest earlier.

Aemilius gets a knight.

Before more business can occur, news arrives from traders of a major Storm at Sea. Handily Rome owns no fleets as yet, so this event has no effect.

@Kolbex: your turn, same options as above.
