The Klondike Circa 1879
The Spanish American War (and aftermath) is just packed with suitable material.

Map of Venice, in the Vatican Galllery of Maps
I saw this in person a few months ago. If old maps are a thing you like, put it on the bucket list.
Yeah, that gallery is fantastic. I think the Wiki undersells it too. These frescoes are nearly floor to ceiling, and the ceilings are very, very high up.
Lemme see if I can attach a picture of one map I took of my great-grandfather’s hometown. When he was living there, they called it Patti, but on the giant map, which was much older, I think they called it Tyndarium. (And another picture with a human for scale.)
Anything short of being there undersells it. :-)
I took pictures but
- It was packed, and hard to get a shot sans people.
- My little handheld camera was not up to the task.
I shall return.
I have been jonesing to play really bad the last year or so. :(
These old airline maps have been a delight to discover.
Lucien Boucher really hit it out of the park with his Air France works.
“When you don’t have the time or money for Florida” is as good as any excuse for The Dells being where they are as I’ve heard.
Indeed. BTW, I live where the map is accurately labeled “Republicans.” (sigh)
My Mom’s people are in Waukeshau…so watch it. :)
Better Dead than Red (Madison).
On one hand, how is Montana and not Nevada represented by a alien abduction movie? On the other… Tremors is a damn good movie.
I was speaking ironically. Nevada… Area 51… Little A’Le’Inn…etc. All of that “excellent” material and Montana still gets shafted with the terrible abduction movie.
