Snowrunner, aka Spintires 3, aka Mudrunner 2

Thirding what they said. Start with Snowrunner.

You all have gone insane.
What the hell are those pictures of vacations at some golf club. I won’t even comment on the Gran Turismo car Tom is driving.

This is Mudrunner.

Ouch. Now I might have to put something about avatar-shaming in the forum rules of conduct…

To be fair, I was actually going to say something about how Spintires especially, but also Mudrunner, has a wonderfully bleak Soviet influenced, 70s style, Friedkin’s Sorcerer aesthetic. However, that seems to be in Snowrunner’s final Drowned Lands biome. I poked a few cautious tires into that mire, and then fled screaming back to Michigan and Alaska. I’ve also peeked at some of the later and more expensive vehicles. So I’m fairly confident Snowrunner will get there.

Just think of it as the Spintires equivalent of a racing game. Sure, you want the high-performance Italian sports car. But first you gotta drive around in the Ford Escort to earn it.

I love the Scout 800 but it’s like supervising a toddler on a trampoline. I was a bit motion sick after exploring about half the Smithville Dam map with it, and had to call it a day. Getting the engine-independent winch was a lifesaver. Found another useless (highway) truck in the swamp and still haven’t unlocked any decent tyres for the Fleetstar. I’m a bit loath to start the Not a Drill mission mentioned above without them.

Yeah, I switched to the Hummer as soon as I could because the Scout was tipping over so much. I may try to get the YAR soon though.

This seems… less than ideal:

Judging by your screenshots, I’m on the same trajectory as you. A bit behind, as I have not had to take my vehicles into the centre of the lake so far. :P

I spent some time yesterday trying to get the trailer with two containers out of the quarry; a new approach is needed today.

Great screenshots!

Oh man, so I was wondering why my Task list was blank. It turns out that if you exit the tutorial early, none of the tasks or contests show up in the world. I spent hours and hours trying to deliver the heavy fuel trailer on map one, and now I see there is a task to repair the bridge that was out, which didn’t show up at the time! Good grief.

If that’s affecting anyone else, you need to Skip Tutorial manually in Settings.

There’s a lot of jank like that. Another key thing to remember - you have to manually accept a task after you find it, or it won’t get properly activated so you can track it and complete it.

Am I missing something about unloading cargo? I drove the metal beams or whatever to the bridge, and looked at the prompts for five minutes trying to find the right button. I was in the cargo menu pressing the button to unload cargo, and it would highlight as if it was doing something, but nothing would happen.

Bug, or user error?

There definitely are bugs. (One that keeps happening to me is the RB button will get “stuck” so every time I push Y it turns off my differential instead of quick-firing my winch.)

It’s possible you never accepted the mission to fix the bridge though. I think you have to start the mission before you can complete it.

Things I wish worked better:

  • Trailers on the map should show capacity, contents, and required equipment for hauling (scout, regular hitch, high saddle, low saddle.)
  • It would also be nice to be able to see repair status for every truck on the map, including tires and repair points needed for repairs. Or at least show repair status once I’ve visited the truck once.
  • I’d love to be able to compare HP and top speed for trucks, rather than just have grades for power, durability, mileage, etc. It’s hard to compare a Heavy to a Heavy Duty.
  • Allow me to get mileage in L/km and not just L/min. Give me a speedometer and odometer.
  • Hot button to turn off the UI (or better yet, a screenshot mode.) It’s a pain to have to go into settings and turn off 3 UI features whenever I want to take a screenie.
  • Repair/refuel by proximity. (I think you have to be connected by trailer or winch to repair/refuel another vehicle.)
  • Show repair/refuel capacities on fuel tanks, service trailers, roof racks, etc.

You might be on the wrong tab (LT/RT switches on a controller). There are two different types of cargo unloading for some reason.

I did the same thing…and then realized I did not accept the mission…I drove twice with loads to the bridge before I realized this…3 times a charm!

That would be my other suggestion, though I think it doesn’t even give you the unload option if you don’t accept the mission.

Just unlocked the Michigan starting garage.

Just to make sure I’m not doing something really stupid here, if the road is super muddy with really deep ruts, I’m better off trying to drive along the side of the road, unless there are trees or rocks too large for me to go over right?

I’m not supposed to just go through the center, even though that’s clearly the center of the road (and clearly where everyone else has gone), because that’s now the deepest and most chewed up part of the road with the least amount of traction available, right?

Also even though the tutorial took me to Alaska, that was just to show me how to hope regions, and I’m better off sticking to Michigan for now if I don’t know what I’m doing?

Generally, yeah. Eventually you’ll get trucks and upgrades that make it so it’s not worth the effort/risk to try to skirt a lot of those puddles

Mainly, but bear in mind vehicles/upgrades are hidden around different maps, so it can be worth doing a bit of exploring in Alaska and even Russia early. The Hummer’s there and relatively easy to find early on, for instance. But it’s probably best to mainly stick to Michigan until you get to at least level 8 and can unlock better tires. Chain tires are even higher level on most vehicles, I think.

Thanks @Ginger_Yellow. I purchased some All Terrain tires for the initial Pickup since they were marked as Good in mud.
