Space Game General All-Platform Thready Discussy Thing :)

I think this is the guide you are referring to? It is thorough yet moves at a brisk pace.

So Starbase Startopia is a soulless shell of a thing. Didn’t make it through two entries.

After the PC Gamer review I was expecting this. Thanks for taking one for the team.

Happy to, I’d always rather y’all spend your money on the right devs.

Shame, I loved the original.

Yes, that is the one. I still need to finish watching it.

Thank you!

I work at Paradox so bias alert! I can take no credit for Stellaris (sadly). but I am happy to make the case for it any day. It is still the best Space 4x for my playstyle. I like a big chill expansion and exploration style game.

If you have access to it for a buck or for free I genuinely think its worth you at least taking a look.

It’s really weird how the game gets so much hate here but is pretty highly rated on Steam. Not saying one is right and the other is wrong, or vice versa, just weird.

I think it just mostly gets hate from me. ;)

The 4x crowd at eXplorminate are split as well with Stellaris proving to be a very polarizing subject.

I’ve not played it so I’ve no opinion one way or the other but the people for and against it regularly come to blows about it in their steam chat section.

Part of the problem I think is that even for those of us that have enjoyed time with it, it didn’t live up to what we hoped would come from Paradox.

I don’t play Stellaris any more because of some of the decisions they made with it post-launch. However for someone who has never played it before I’d definitely recommend it, especially multiplayer.

Stellaris is a game that never pushes back and has zero friction once you have a basic handle on the UI.

It makes sure the players get a big space opera narrative with every playthrough, but is extremely shallow as a strategy game requiring strategic choices and decisions. Turns out that’s what the people want.

I’m under the impression that the people who like and enjoy Stellaris are (mostly) the people who never played (properly) Sword of the Stars Complete.

I think that’s probably because the average Steam rater only plays up through the early game and the early game is very fun because of the exploration events. It’s only after you get to the midgame that things start to fall apart.

Fellow gamers are perfectly entitled to not like games :) They have their own good reasons for doing so.

For me I want a space strategy game to help me tell the story I want ,my last Stellaris game I played galaxy conquering space sex vampires and the game helped me do that perfectly.

The game before that I led a tribe of space nomads who ended up building six ringworlds across the galaxy including on the grave system of the dreaded space dragon which had nearly wiped us out early on.

If you want a strategy game which is a puzzle to be figured out then Stellaris is not that game for sure. Its very loose and lets you succeed in many different ways. You can also the up the difficulty to make it a more standard punishing puzzle strategy if you like, but thats not my cup of tea and imho thats not its strength.

But if you want a 4x sandbox relaxing game with constant progression then I think its the best out there.

Also @rhamorim I love Sword of the Stars! Great great game. I think the way that game made you feel those ships had POWER was amazing. It made me feel like such a bad ass!

Yeah, the first time you have a “railgun” ship firing in that game… it’s way too awesome. I love that game so much.

Had a hell of a fight in Star Fleet II this morning. Got word one of my starforts detected an enemy, so I headed over to help. What ended up being thrown at us was one heavy cruiser, three light cruisers and two destroyers. We’d been whittling down their forces so this was likely a last-ditch thrust on their part to slow us down. Thankfully between me, my escorts and the starfort, we took them all out except for a destroyer which ran off, but in doing so gave us the location of another enemy starbase to blow up. What a glorious morning.
