Holy crap, that looks lovely.

1.0 or GTFO!

Whoever got the free title from the movie fundraiser should make him wear that…

The 9.1 update is out and contains several sandbox improvements, among other things.

Decent game now, for me it’s second to rebel galaxy, with star-point Gemini a distant distant third.

There was an early May patch, I haven’t tried it yet.

Me neither. I’m torn between wanting to try it and wanting to wait until it hits 1.0. I love how it’s coming along.

I don’t know what it was about the controls in the first SPAZ but I hated them. Couldn’t hit anything to save my life. Anybody who has played 2: does it control basically the same as the first?

I want to like the game but the controls never clicked for me.

You have three aim modes in SPAZ2.

  • Let the computer do all the aiming for all the turrets (or just some of them while you aim others)
    (you can still fire though)

  • You aiming all the turrets yourself and firing at what you “target” with the little aim thing.

  • You go into ‘scoped’ mode and aim pretty much like on option two, except now you see things much closer (hardly ever use it except to aim “up”).

I find with my turreted ship that it is better to just have everything on auto and fly around :)

The game difficulty really ramped up later in the game, so much that I think I have to restart since I made a tactical blunder a few hours earlier that now makes the game seem like a lost cause… but, I guess I could still try to play it out.

Amen brother!

One day I will see this thread pop up and learn the game has been released. That day is not today.

Are we in the right universe?

Making videogames seems to need a lot of work. Almost too much.

I follow a game developer in Facebook, and he sometimes seems that has been developing the same game since before USA was created. Is like “dude, I thought you already released this 6 years ago?”

So far SPZ2 is looking really good. I like pew pew and explosions and a lot of interesting stuff to shot at, and theres alot of this in the videos. Anyway I understand people asking for starship porn. Spaceships porn is a very popular subject. People want their starships to be shiny and adorable in a “hell yea!” kind of way.

Same here with regards to SPAZ controls. But those were mouse+keyboard only. SPAZ 2 has controller support, so the controls for that have to be different, likely allow for much more direct and satisfying control. That doesn’t necessarily have to be the case, of course, but is much more likely. So I’m very much looking forward to a demo or something so that I can try out the controls for myself.

35% off in steam sale. Tempting. Anyone played recently?

A few months ago, but the changes they’ve made even since then are impressive. It’s really coming along nicely.

Is the campaign any good, Brian? Everyone doing videos seems to be doing sandbox instead.

The campaign is kind of a sandbox, but with tutorial/story elements. It’s essentially the same game as far as I remember.

That’s how I remember it as well, Brian. Right now the campaign is voiced by text-to-speech, although they just started casting voice actors.

@Misguided, the campaign isn’t bad if the text-to-speech robots don’t bother you, but it’s not dramatically different from the sandbox. I’m a sandbox player myself so I usually play that, but starting out with the campaign might not be a bad idea just to learn some basics.

Thanks guys. It looks great, but I can’t escape the feeling this will be a game I like but don’t end up playing much (common for me)
