Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

That’s quite the euphemism. :)

Oh don’t worry - they won’t.

The what now?

I’ll be in my pod. :)

So when you start/spawn into the game, you are in bed and the animation is of you getting up. That bunk is the “wank pod”. If you don’t know what the first word means, Google is your friend.

And some time. Just some time. It is not.

It reminds me of hot bunking, as described to me by a friend that was on a submarine. Hot bunking meant that as soon as you got up for your shift, some dude was coming in to sleep in the very same bunk. If you wanted to fuck with someone, you would bomb a serious fart in the bunk and seal the blanket up. The next guy would be exhausted and roll into the bunk, pulling the covers over his head to avoid the lights which were always on.

So tempted to make a comparison that probably should be left in P&R…

Euphemism of the year?

We’re not talking about a “bunk” though. We’re talking about a “wank pod”

Okay.

As a “lurker” I’d like to interject my two cents.

I think some of the rhetoric in this thread could use a bit of a more balanced position (am I PC too much?)

I have been a backer of SC since about day 1. I’m neither a “white knight” nor whatever the opposite might be called.

My purpose is only to tell you that there is no “bunk” nor “wank pod” in SC AFAIK. There are only spawn locations. And those locations are (at least the ones that I have experienced) in insolated “rooms” to keep other logged on “players” from seeing the immersion breaking visage of an avatar materializing out of apparent nowhere (sorry if I assumed too much).

There is no masturbation game mechanic in game AFAIK.

M.

That’s great to know, thanks for sharing. This thread certainly needs more balanced discussion. Welcome to Qt3

Great. I hope they’re still accepting refunds.

As an Easter (refried) egg maybe?

In any case, since this game development seems to be unhindered by reality - see the 90-90 rule - and can be everything to anyone…

So yes to procedural eggs but no to procedural wanking?!

THIS IS A TRAVESTY.

That’s because only Chris Roberts and company are getting off! (I’m sorry I’ll leave now…)

There’ll soon be a JPEG sale to address that.

Wait. I thought this game has like, everything.
Kitchen sinks, masturbation, earthworms, birds, bees…

Fair enough, but of course no one is implying there is any such mechanic. The derogatory term for the spawn location stems largely from the feelings people have about the design decisions concerning spawning (among many other things) overall. Yes, seeing people just “pop in” might be “immersion breaking,” but the solution ends up adding useless activity and frustrating time sinks by having you have to traverse parts of the station/base/whatever again and again, and except for the OCD it serves zero purpose. At least, the purpose seems very much not worth the cost.

I am pretty sure that whether one is still on board with this project depends a lot on how much one is really motivated and jazzed by extremities of minutia. If you’re the type that really like having every switch activation modeled, every step of a mundane process animated, etc., in the spirit of the most hard-core flight sims, I suspect this thing would still have a lot of appeal. For the other 99.9% of humanity, not so much.

Your explanation of “useless activities” is very clear and yet did not require a derogatory term! If the purpose of the derogatory term was merely to abbreviate the explanation I believe other terms, ie. “grind,” also exist. So why bring the derogatory?

It all kinda rings similar to something like, “I refuse to call Megan Kelly a bimbo…” to me.

Hey, I’m not a fan of a lot of SC. Didn’t want an MMO at all! I only checked it out as I thought it would be a way to prepare for SQ42 (which is what I backed in the first place).

The game build currently being mocked is a test build that has many mechanics purposely (or supposedly?) disabled per the release notes (and my own observations). For all I know they also turn various ones on and off server side during each release period. What is eventually released to “Live” (not test) could be the first time to know what is truly working or not. Just sayin’.
