Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Because “grindy” describes Elite’s atrocious travel times. This is way beyond that and even more pointless and much more wasteful or dev resources.
I assume. They’re both way too far from looking fun to me.

You - literally - can’t be serious. Like - at all. Fine, let’s go…

Unless you have read EVERY SINGLE POST in this thread, there is no way on this God’S Earth that you will say that it’s not balanced. In fact, it’s pretty balanced, and has a hefty dose of biased, unbiased and neutral opinions. Heck, a few posts ago I was in a dance with someone who saw it fit to attack me, instead of focusing on the subject. And that is the general stance of the Star Citizen “fans”, which is why they get so much aggravation and trolling from us.

There is literally nothing to balance when it comes to Star Citizen simply because it’s an uphill battle to defend the indefensible. Nobody gives a sh*t if someone wants balance because they backed the project or not, as that would imply that others care enough to be concerned about other people’s feelz. We’re gamers; and as gamers we’re an obnoxious, entitled, unforgiving, drama-driven caste without a single contrite quality when it comes to engaging in said drama. If it’s great, we shout at the rooftops. If anything [about a game] is bad, we try - very hard - to burn it all to the ground. It’s a never-ending cycle. Welcome to The Suck.

Which brings me to your post…

You’re a “backer of SC since about day 1”, but instead of, you know, saying something “balanced” (that which you’re advocating for in your post) about the game etc, you decided to engage in a pointless exercise explaining a FREAKING JOKE (see: wank pod) that’s been out since June 2016 when Build 2.4 (aka mini-PU) was released, and in which the player wakes up in a personal bunk bed when spawning into the game.

You, my friend, just highlighted the same problem that others like you are having. It’s hard to say anything positive about this project because it’s a seemingly pointless exercise. So instead, you guys engage in meaningless riffs which then devolve into inconsequential arguments that everyone ends up piling on. Which is precisely how an eco-chamber (see: /r/starcitizen or spectrum) works and thrives. And next thing you know, we end up in discussions like this which are more about nonsensical drivel, than they are about the project and the would-be “game”.

I am an original backer of the project; and on numerous occasions I have written good, bad, and ugly things about the project and all the scammers involved in it. I don’t just focus on the negative, the bad actors etc. I focus on everything, ranging from the game, and said bad actors, to the project’s viability, finances etc. When all is said and done, the project is an absolutely train-wreck that was doomed to fail since Nov 2014 when Chris increased the scope once he figured out how to monetize scope creep. And FOUR YEARS later, not only are neither of the two games released, but neither one is even in Beta. Go ahead and defend that. I’ll wait.

OK, I am convinced that you’re not serious. Moving along…

Unless you bought SQ42 after Feb 14, 2016, you didn’t just back SQ42. You backed both Star Citizen and SQ42. There were two games before that package split.

Though they removed co-op from SQ42 back in 2015, Star Citizen was standard session-based multiplayer (ala Freelancer; and not an MMO), while SQ42 was single-player (ala Wing Commander).

The engines being developed are required for both games. So any bugs in one will be present in the other. Aside from their own unique (e.g. SQ42 won’t have networking issues) bugs and issues.

That’s rubbish. All of it.

The “game” is in pre-Alpha. The current disastrous 3.3 build currently in PTU (Public Test Universe) doesn’t have anything “disabled” because it’s being tested. You know that’s why they have weekly (every Friday) dev schedule releases, right? You should totally read it. Then read the patch notes that goes with each build.

That’s pure and utter nonsense. They don’t. In all my years on the Internet, I have found that when someone says things like “for all I know”, it usually means they have no clue wtf they’re talking about, or they’re making sh*t up out of whole cloth with zero basis of fact. Stop it.

Since you’re clearly not paying attention, here is the release cycle for your “game”.

dev → internal test → Evocati (special snowflakes) → PTU → Live

Derek,

I am not defending SC.

I have read EVERY SINGLE POST in this thread. Also from about day 1.

Sorry if I was not more clear. I should have specified that I was addressing recent posts. Probably should have written:

That kind of misunderstanding is EXACTLY why I wrote my original post. It can be unclear to those reading (especially those who are only reading recent posts) that the subject matter in the recent posts are not what actually exists in SC.

I apologize if I offended you. It was not my intention to do so. Also, part of my original post was meant to be “tongue in cheek.” That is a difficult thing for a newcomer to project, I know.

Cheers,

M.

Until you can get rich in Star Citizen by programming Star Citizen inside Star Citizen, it’s no sale for me.

man, I’m not saying that’s wrong, but if you’ve been reading this thread since April 2014 for 7753 posts, and the “wank pod” was the thing that finally got you to join and have an opinion… that’s a surprise, that’s all I’m saying.

It wouldn’t matter if you were though. I hope my posts didn’t give you the wrong impression.

No offense taken, and no apologies needed. It’s not as if you were insulting or attacking anyone. Yes, I can be very defensive of a position, but those who know me, know very well that I’m not easily offended.

wot he said! :)

My latest Star Citizen article covers the latest patch fiasco, in-game ship buying, as well as the much-anticipated and revealing financials of the UK parent filed yesterday.

Ha! I can see how you would think that.

Seriously though, I’ve probably tried to join Qt3 about a dozen times or so for more than a decade. Well before Patreon and all. But I never got the reply e-mail from Tom that it said was required. And I’ve tried from time to time since Patreon but got this message saying something like “messages not allowed from your IP address.” Which does not make much sense since I’m on a national carrier.

I have even contacted Brian Rubin on his website once to offer a suggestion that I could not post on Qt3. not that anyone cares…

Yesterday I tried to make an account again here on Qt3 and it went through!

Sorry again if my first post was offensive to anyone. For me it felt like I’ve been conversing with you all for quite awhile…

Wait, you did? What was that? My memory is TERRIBLE.

Hey Mike, sorry for the delay on this, been a craaaaahaazy month and I’ve not had time to try your solution, but I thank you for it and plan to soon. :)

Sincerely,

Brian Rubin

Space Game Junkie

If it has a spaceship, I’ll play it.

Who is Brian Rubin, again?

That sounds like something I’d write, but what did YOU write?

March 21, 2016

Sorry to contact you here, but I have never received access to post at QT3. I’ve tried several times but never receive a reply to my “Introduction” e-mails. Not sure if Tom even gets them.

I saw where you posted that the download for Star Citizen stalls every time. Not sure if this is the issue, but I have noticed that since they switched to their torrent tech downloader that every time I need to download it will saturate my bandwidth. If I do anything else that requires the Internet on the computer that is downloading it will stall the Star Citizen downloader. I have learned to pause it manually before doing anything else on the Internet, and then restart and leave my computer alone to have it continue. Also, I have to make sure no one else in the house is using the WiFi since it will drag their connections to a near halt as well. PITA, but I’m usually up and able to download before the rest of the family rises on the weekends.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

M.

I would hopefully write that previous “explanation” with a bit more clarity now…

And back to sc…?

OH wow, that was you?!

I have to be honest, I chuckled at your email. The notion of having to turn EVERYTHING that used the Internet off to download ONE game was, frankly to me, hilarious. I still laugh about it, because it’s ridiculous.

Please don’t think I’m saying YOU’RE ridiculous or hilarious. I’m not. I’m saying the notion of having to do such a thing IS ridiculous and hilarious.

I’m hoping the issue is fixed so I can download it on my new rig once I get everything set up.

For those interested in regular updates on what’s in the patches, what the bugs are, what’s coming, what the devs have said, Bored Gamer regularly posts videos.

They are very matter of fact: This is what has been said. this is what works and what doesn’t. So it gives you a pretty good idea of where things are.

For instance, if you’d like to know what the devs have said about the new flight model coming december 2018, have a look at this one:

I also like this look at character models, customisation and the technology behind ensuring that your gear adapts to your body shape. If you jump 5 minutes into that video, you can see the gear wrapping around the player’s head to avoid clipping issues:

For those who want to keep track of what’s new in short 10’ videos, they are a pretty good source to subscribe to.

I agree!

When I first noticed that having any other Internet traffic activated while having the SC updater running was maybe bugging out the SC installer I was flabbergasted.

I have not experienced that issue since several “revs” of their installer.

I’m not an extremely Internet savvy person. So I’m not sure what all is involved. But I hope I helped.

PS. Is there a PM capability on this forum? I’m not familiar with Patreon (see previous statements).

YEah, click on their icon and a message link should appear.
