If CIG succeeds in their asking of the court for the $500,000 bond Crytek deposited, that will mean that Crytek will (unwillingly) become CIG’s largest whale.

That was the plan with Freelancer. Come out with the single player, which they did, and then down the line release the MMO part of it, which they never did. Toss Starlancer in there and at least they released some games. I enjoyed Freelancer.
Of course they didn’t have a pod of whales snapping up jpegs. That must be hard to resist. It’s like Xeroxing $100 bills and finding out that they work in stores! Shit, I’m making more copies!
I really liked Freelancer in the end, but MS yanked it out of Roberts’s hands at a certain point, didn’t they?
They took over Digital Anvil. The rumor was there was some monkey business with the money MS gave DA for development of some games MS was going to publish, some $35-40M if I recall. Roberts may have sunk a chunk of it into his Wing Commander movie instead of game development, and then the movie bombed.
My impression was that if they hadn’t done that, there’d be no game.
Same here. They basically took the bare pieces that were there and turned it into an actual game.
