Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Yeah, pretty much. But as I outlined above, the amount really doesn’t matter if all Crytek got was enough to cover their legal costs and the cost of a second license. But it won’t be “either party” because Crytek wouldn’t have had to pay anything to CIG in order to settle because they were the plaintiffs and CIG hadn’t filed any cross-complaint or counter-claim against Crytek and which would facilitate that.

It’s totally plausible that the parties involved would breach the confidentially of the settlement agreement to tell Derek Smart the dollar figure. I can’t see why anyone would doubt such a thing.

There’s always plenty of time to talk before the signing ceremony while the document is drafted.

If we are just making things up, sure it may be possible. Still courts and involved parties don’t exactly smile on someone breaching confidentially after agreeing to it even if it hasn’t been signed. It would be incredibly stupid and jeopardize the agreement. What would any party have to gain from such an action?

The Star Control case had a complete gag order on settlement discussions yet there were constant claims of having inside info up to and including announcing his inside sources told him there’d be no settlement and it’s going to trial as the settlement was being drafted and submitted.

When someone repeatedly claims to have inside sources they can’t share that strains credulity enough. When they claim such and are repeatedly wrong so much more so. What evidence is there that Derek actually has the sources he claims? Shouldn’t extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence?

I’m not saying you should believe him. I just realize that there’s plenty of people in the know of negotiations that there’s going to be people who like to talk - which includes people lying, mishearing, grandstanding (cough Star Control cough) or whatever.
The only “proof” is the compelling argument that settling for <1m doesn’t make much sense, and that it’s not like 17m is a big number that will save CryTek or sink a competent version of CIG.
It’s also the version with the most entertainment value.

It’s not even that. Considering that everyone in the industry is six degrees separated from the next person, coupled with the fact that we in the industry are like whiny little bitches who gossip as if we were getting prizes for it, stuff gets discussed, then leaked. But don’t worry though, only stuff pertaining to the greatest train wreck in gaming history isn’t likely to leak or be discussed by those in the know. Because, you know, ALL the other stuff that’s leaked - included stuff from me that nobody else knew before I blurted it out - were just happenstance and flukes because I’m a soothsayer who is so good at guesswork that I have accurately predicted aspects of this shit-show since it landed (through sources) in my lap in the Summer of 2015.

Ignore the forum caricature.

Trying to make sense like this isn’t going to do any good in the face of a true believer who never heard of this dude…

More to your point about “1m doesn’t make much sense” is precisely what I have been saying because it doesn’t. And amount (it’s less than $17.5m btw) is largely irrelevant. What’s relevant is that a groupd of lying douches got trounced in court and in the public having been busted for IP theft over a few million Dollars when they’ve raised so much cash that they could just have bought a second license and moved on.

But there’s NOTHING honorable about these people running the project. They’re all grifters, liars and fraudsters. All of them. And it’s precisely why, NINE (!!) years and $400M later, they still don’t have ANYTHING resembling the game they pitched for $2M in 2012, let alone the one they pitched for $65M in 2014. Not to mention the fact that, just as I had said in several blogs prior, we come to find out in Dec 2018 that mere months before, during the Summer of 2018, the project had been INSOLVENT and running on empty for years - straight. Just as sources had said and which myself and the Escapist had written back in 2015. They needed a $46M bailout to continue ops.

The project is right now on the verge of a catastrophic collapse. That’s all I’m going to say for now. Watch this space.

Here we go again.

So we’re 6 years behind the scheduled release date for SQ42 now - has there been any news about that “game” lately?

Zippo

What does your heart tell you? :) But wait! It’s a LOT worse. Read their Mar 13th update regarding that. It’s hilarious - and expected.

“This version of the Squadron 42 Roadmap will not be updated”. Learn more here.

See also this (it’s even more hilarious). Here’s an excerpt:

Feature Driven

While the Persistent Universe has shifted to a milestone driven schedule of quarterly installments and we are happy to showcase “work in progress” to our community, the focus for Squadron 42 is to deliver an experience that contains both the narrative and feature scope we envision in one final game. As such, Squadron 42 will only be released when we have achieved our final, polished, creative vision. If there is any slip in our quarterly goals, this will push out for the project’s end date.

Can the game ever be as entertaining as this thread?

None of that is new news though. We have known for easily 6mo plus that there was no effectively no public roadmap for SQ42 as CIG’s plan was to not provide updates and release it when it is feature complete.

No news on SQ42 is just how it is until it just magically shits out of a unicorn’s ass one day.

No, no it cannot.

I don’t know, the bug videos I see out of the ‘game’ are pretty hilarious.

It’s funny though, the roadmap that does exist for SQ42 has tasks/jobs/features in late 2019 or 2020 - dragging bodies, pushing and pulling objects, commanding wingmen, formation flying, using cover, etc. Stuff I would have thought need to be pretty complete before you even design a game around them.

Like if you’re not going to need to move large objects in SQ42, why build the functionality? And if you are going to need to move objects, how far can level design, building and balancing really be along? It’s a space fighter and AI can’t fly in formation yet? That hardly bodes well for an actual game being anywhere near to release. Like, not in 2020, not in 2021… 2022?

A Pay2Win MMO with a ridiculously large and growing scope? I don’t see why not.
