Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Sure.

This for context.

Wait. Good natured development? Wait, are you familiar at all with the subject.

Here’s the top thread in steam discussions of the game he was supposed to be working on when he stated he had all day to argue with me about how delusional he is to say he wasn’t wrong about the Star Control suit.

Customer: Release Date?
I saw a video online that said this was releasing in Summer 2012. Is there a projected date when will the final game be released?

DS:
It’s Early Access, I don’t owe you a release date.

I’m sure someone more familiar with his posting during the BC3K release debacle can enlighten us about his good-natured development and treatment of customers who felt cheated.

Oh you sweet summer child.

Dude. I like you. Please give up.

Okay I’ll just concede that you’re right, not gonna engage further. I think my point is clear enough already.

I know I should, but this keeps delivering laughs and laughs are needed these days.

But some of the laughs are coming FROM IN YOUR HOUSE!

Well, yes, I have been laughing my ass off about the absurdities being posted. And yes, I get your point, but fortunately I don’t really put any investment of ego into my forum posts. If I’m tiling at windmills and that causes some laughs at the attempt, so be it.

You do you, man. :)

Cheers.

I’m with @Thrag here. I don’t doubt that SC has plenty of problems, and is an ongoing disaster of a development project. I’ve never given them a dollar, but that’s easy for me to say because I don’t do PC games. But still, point stands- I have no horse in this race.

But the idea that Derek of all people is the one spearheading this whole inquiry is just nuts. I mean, I know, “don’t focus on the messenger, just the message”, but man, the man has absolutely no leg to stand on when it comes to criticizing others about releasing buggy, unfulfilled-promises games. It’s kind of like the Micheal Avenatti/Trump thing- I guess you can like one for calling out the other on his bullshit, but man, they’re both scumbag grifters.

I can’t adequately express the sheer joy of seeing a user named “Don Quixote” posting after that last exchange.

For the record, I do not think either Derek or Chris are scammers. Just people with big dreams and big egos who got in over their heads.

Sure. I’m sure Smart justifies it to himself as ‘just a business decision’. As in, “I’m running a business here, and have only so many resources to devote to this project. I got it working (mostly/as much as I could with my budget). Don’t complain, you knew what you were getting yourself into”. Bleh.

Which version?
I read the reviews on the first release, and skipped it. But Version 2.0 came out faring much better, and so I bought it and enjoyed it. That fucking manual though! I had to read it! :-)
Anyway IIRC, v2.0 released at $20, so I certainly didn’t feel ripped off.

That was funny. I didn’t know Derek was such a comedian :D

Thinking about the original version. That was such a disaster, I never bothered checking out the redo. ;-)

QFT.

There is a point, though, with some people where the dream and the vision become so important that they’ll do anything to keep them alive. Slowly, not even deliberately, they start to do things that they would never have agreed to do up front, but which, taken individually and in the moment, each seem to be justifiable and necessary to keep the dream alive. Eventually, they get to a point where the dream has become a nightmare, and they’re in too deep to just walk away, so they double down on what has now become a passel of intertwined bad decisions, questionable choices and dubious ethics.

Whether that is the case with SC or not I can’t say, though the outward indications seem to point in that direction.
