Does the game have a virtual sextant? How did he do his sightings?
Here’s the thread. Pretty interesting really. Thar’s some hardcore simmin’!
The game has lots of little fragments of gameplay systems in it, but no even MOSTLY complete systems whatsoever. It feels like playing the very first release of an Early Access game on Steam, which is an absurd place to be in after 9 years.
So you’ve got a game with no complete gameplay loops or mechanics, with tons more promised. And you’ve you’ve got a few planets and whatever, with literally DOZENS more promised. And more and more new ships. More and more new modes. More and more new mechanics.
If the money keeps coming in, I am 99% certain the Star Citizen PU will still be putting out incomplete alphas to their backers in 2025.
And Squadron 42 was supposed to be entering beta at some point this year - when’s the last time there was even an update on that game’s progress? Does anyone actually believe they’ll hit that milestone? Even CIG’s true believers?
Meanwhile, the guy whose company is sustained by crowdfunding and has yet to ship any actual product in nearly a decade, now owns a house that cost almost five million dollars.
At least, there aren’t any pics of him and his partner standing barefoot on the lawn with weapons pointed at the mobs of Star Citizen detractors.
Yet.
Let’s be fair, the guns would only be JPEG’s of real guns.
Go on then, I’ll bite, I’m an anti-money laundering analyst for a S&P500 financial institution with over a decade working for the big IBs and other regulated firms. Whats the methodology used to launder funds through these ship sales? Something at the layering stage?
It’s very simple - and I outlined it in the blog that I linked earlier.
At the very basic level, it works just like how any money laundering works with games (e.g. MMOs) with MT. Buy ships with ill-gotten gains (e.g. fraudulent credit cards, drug running etc) and then sell them on the black market. For a time, this was exceptionally profitable when CIG was doing no-questions-asked refunds. They closed that loophole back in 2016 when they stopped doing refunds more than 30 days, and also requiring ID for large refunds. So the black market route was the best. And it’s primarily what accounts for so many game “accounts” because most are throw-aways or sold on the black market along with the ships those accounts contain.
At the corporate level, my guess is that it’s operating the same way that brought down the likes of Gizmondo (of which most of the CIG primaries - including their current CFO) were a part of.
I am going to say this again. I am 100% convinced that there’s funny business going on with the CIG financials and at some point in time, it’s going to be public. Wait.
Interesting video. 100 Star systems? I didn’t know that. Are people seriously expecting that? That doesn’t seem like a reasonable expectation, no matter how many times it was promised.
I blew the whistle on that in this 2018 article in which I claimed that it was never - ever - going to be a thing. And the count is 106 promised btw.
Quoted from the article-:
But let’s wind back a bit. Back in 2012, via stretch goals, they promised 106 starsystems with literally hundreds of planets and moons.
- $6M: 100 starsystems
- $36M: Tamsa
- $37M: Tanga
- $38M: Cano
- $39M: UDS-2943-01-22
- $40M: Kabal & Oretani
Tech constraints aside, they have yet to build and release a single starsystem to completion. Here is the full proposed interactive starmap that went live a couple of years back. That’s what they claim they would build.
As for the money laundering aspect of Star Citizen, I kinda take an occum’s razor approach. I don’t think people incapable of straightforward project management and apparently incompetent in so many ways are sophisticated enough to pull off a criminal enterprise. Chris Roberts is far more Barney Fife than Vito Corleone.
I agree. But when you consider (the latest being Wirecard) the trends over the years - coupled with the fact that we didn’t know about Gizmondo until it happened - even such an approach beggars belief.
And Squadron 42 was supposed to be entering beta at some point this year - when’s the last time there was even an update on that game’s progress? Does anyone actually believe they’ll hit that milestone? Even CIG’s true believers?
Well, don’t look now, but SQ42 missed its Q2/02 Beta release date. Which isn’t entirely surprising when you consider that it missed every single alpha milestone since 2019.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch…
Meanwhile, the guy whose company is sustained by crowdfunding and has yet to ship any actual product in nearly a decade, now owns a house that cost almost five million dollars.
And a trust fund. This after cashing out with investor and backer money.
Not to mention the crazy part whereby Chris took backer money to build a studio (UK) for his brother; and then turned around and bought it back from himself. Yes - that totally happened, and it was the most inventive way yet of taking backer money out of the project and into their coffers. That aside from the fact that his brother is still the highest paid corp exec in the ENTIRE region where he works. For a company that has yet to ship a product - of any kind.
From my understanding, SQ42 has missed: 2373 possible release days since the 1st of January 2014.

Yes. Remember back in Dec 2018 when they disclosed the $46m investor bailout they got in Summer 2018 and which was “marketing” for SQ42, which was totally going into Alpha in 2019? Yeah.
Meanwhile over at the “hate” sub

He did say that they would try to get a good chunk of them, he didn’t say that they actually would do it.
I am confident that they have had a bunch of random fresh out of school twenty-somethings try to do a lot of things.
That last one is… Has nobody called him on that? If I dropped $10,000 on the game, I’d certainly be fucking annoyed.
Well, if you read the fan-fiction for the game, the game has delivered already, it just isn’t playable on your computer yet, but in your head, damn, such a good game. and the visual fidelity… out of this world.
Did they kill comical ali, or is he still available - - he’d make a good PR guy for RSI.
Friend’s bf is “investing” in Star Citzen. Is there a succinct link I can send info with evidence on how it’s a scam?
I thought both /r/starcitizen and the official forums didn’t contain much vitriol (or it was censored/removed)? Is this a sign that things are changing in the attitudes of the masses?
