Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Amazing chart. Are they getting lots of newbs still, or is it mostly milking the True Believers?

Another idea —- get the True Believers to put Star Citizen in their wills. You get a unique, gold paper clip with the SC logo to hold the will together.

I should be working for Chris. Feels like there are 10 years more of job security, minimum.

Gold staple. You really want a will to be evidently stapled just once to reduce the risk of challenges. And when you leave money to Star Citizen, your kids are going to challenge that will.

I’m not fully convinced that some of that chart showing “funding” (especially in 2020) isn’t the moving around of assets or investment capital from some sort of sale of shares.

That’s why I always buy pledge for two copies of every spaceship so I can leave equal fleets to my kids as their inheritance.

Me neither. This is from the Google docs spreadsheet. I think they track users and “fleet” size (number of ships bought) which should allow to do a quick check to see if the numbers make sense.

Alas, I’m away from my computer. And will be for the weekend. So I can’t do the check.

I remember you could see the funding going up matching sales, though. So it’s it’s moving financial assets, it would probably be very sketchy (which it very well could be, mind you).

But, I mean, it was already hard to understand the $30M a year they were doing before. How the hell doubling that is possible I don’t know, but we are already in the land of the weird.

So who knows how legit it is. It does not seem it’s about to run out of funding anytime soon, though.

Every time I start to think “how could people be spending so much money on this!?” I remember back to beanie babies and shrug.

Yeah, but physical collectibles have a habit of coming back in fashion, and you are nearly guaranteed that if you have items in the original packaging particularly that someone eventually will want it enough to buy it. And you aren’t dependent on someone else’s servers or whatever–those Beanie Babies are all yours!

I seriously think they’ve run a successful Nigerian Prince scam here. Using nostalgia and escapism as a lure, they’ve managed to find the most gullible people in the gaming world; people who will mortgage their house and live in a dumpster just to see Chris’s dream fulfilled.

Humanity has wasted worse…I’d rather see all this money on this one game ,than the SHIT we usually spend on…

There’s got to be some connection to money laundering, but i don’t know how exactly. What does the 3rd party resale market look like?

Crobbers bought a mansion with the proceeds

“In September 2018, the Roberts Family Trust, with Gardiner as its trustee, purchased a house for $4.7 million in L.A.’s Pacific Palisades neighborhood. Prior to that, Roberts had been renting. Roberts says he sold his Hollywood house in 2007 because he wanted to experience living near the ocean. He then rented for ten years because he wasn’t sure if he would like it or stay in L.A. long-term.”

That’s… interesting. You are serious, right?

I think the point of that pic, and of what Janster is saying (hopefully), relates to the one right at the bottom and not those above it. :)

Yeah, look very hard at the last one…

Huh? I must have missed some news.
Unless you’re being funny?

Can I buy those expensive Star Citizen JPEGs using bitcoin yet?

I want to hear more about this too. That’s a pretty hefty rumor.

Yeah, it’s true. I bought the whole shebang, and I’m pivoting the project to be a simulation of @John_Many_Jars and his love life.

The new JPEGS we’ll be selling…they’re BIG, I tell you. BIG!

I think that’s as much as Derek can share as he’s allegedly the purchasing party.
