Star Trek Online - QtTHREEEEE IIIINNN SPAAAAAACE! (launch/roll call/gameplay thread)

Hey I just today got the email for the new ship and the bump to level 60! Maybe I’ll give it another shot. Another another shot I mean.

I just wrapped up the Iconian War. There were definitely some cool missions in there. And I played through Delta Rising and the other content. Definitely has my attention of late. Love my starship.

I’ve been playing this daily for months now. Getting my character and starship up to the best specs. And Season 11 launched today. Lots of new stuff, including an admiralty system (sort of like the duty officer system, but for all the unused starships sitting around spacedock), new episodes, and all that goes with it. DS9 looks really spiffy, too. Got a visual overhaul; it was looking very 2010 before. Between this and Halo, my evening hours are done.

Damn. That kinda makes me want to reinstall. Been ages since I played STO (I think they raised the level cap since I played last) but that sounds pretty cool. The duty officer system was one of my favorite parts of the game. Being able to send your unused ships off on missions could be neat. Assuming it’s up to duty officer-snuff. I know the similar thing they did in Neverwinter didn’t really do it for me.

Every page on this thread should have some hawt STO space pr0n. So far, this page isn’t delivering.

Ya know, Tom, you could get your own space porn.

<sigh>

I have missed every T-6 ship (actually ANY ship lol) give away they’ve ever had with STO.

Only thing I’ve gotten is the free T-5 ship upgrade.

The ship reward for the winter event this year is the Breen Rezreth Dreadnought Cruiser:

A fairly new feature to STO is the admiralty system. It’s kinda like the duty officer system, but instead of sending duty officers on missions you send the ships in your fleet. Rewards are decent, too. So even though I probably won’t fly the new ship, it will still be useful.

Just logged in after a long hiatus. Lots of fun new stuff to do! And a couple questions:

  1. I have too many passengers on my ship. I can’t take missions that add more passengers. I guess I’ve done a lot of colonist-collection DOFF missions. How can I unload some excess passengers? Are there “colonist delivery” missions I should be taking?

  2. Also, on quality of life: can one squeeze all one’s space abilities onto the three rows of hotkeys? Relatedly, is there any reason to keep the BOFF UI window open? Can’t I just put their abilities on my hotkey rows?

Each nebula has its own chain of seven missions, and some of the missions in the chain require colonists that will be removed from your roster. The chains, and the missions they unlock, are a good source of high-quality duty officers.

Also, if you’re a member of a fleet, you can donate colonists to any fleet project that requires civilian duty officers in exchange for fleet credits.

Not sure which window is the boff UI window. On the right side of the hotkey bar are a couple of icons, and one of them opens up a window with all available skills, including captain, boffs, devices, etc. You can drag skills from that window onto your hotkey bars.

I have all the skills I use on the bars with room to spare, but I don’t have every single skill on there. For example, I don’t keep beams or cannons on the hotkey bars; I just mash spacebar to fire them all.

Hmm, maybe I shouldn’t have beams and cannons on my hotkey bar. I was thinking that I’d want to select which beam to fire depending on where the target is, but I guess spacebar will do that for me? In particular, spacebar won’t fire (and thereby “waste” cooldown/energy of) a weapon that has no enemy in its firing arc?

I got an email from STO and the gave me a T-6 ship. (T-6 Tactical Escort, my main’s an Engineer)

Also STO is celebrating it’s 6th year.

Not bad for an MMO.

I got that email (and ship) as well. Hey, they got me to reinstall, may as well see what else is going on.

Since it is a Tactical ship, I rolled a tactical character.

Not sure how long it takes to get to 50.

It was fast during the Delta Rising event…wish there was another =(

New expansion coming up soon. In a nod to the 50th anniversary of the original Star Trek series, it’s set in the 23rd century.

Not a whole lot of details yet. James Doohan’s son will be doing the voice of Scotty, and the actor who played Bester on Babylon 5 will do Chekov.

Obligatory trailer.

Does Star Trek Online not have the rights to the music or something? What’s up with that generic soundtrack?

-Tom

They do not have the rights to most of the music.
So, this is what you do, turn music off. Find the Original Soundtrack Album for Doomsday Machine and Amok Time, play that in a loop. Works great.

Its on most streaming sites.

Rich VR I have the same ship. Forget the fighters, get the Yellowstone Shuttles–especially if you can get the fleet versions. Tractors, Warp clouds, and torps. They take out ships without my help…its pretty amazing.
On the klingon side, same thing forget the fighters- go with the Birds of Prey. They cloak, and wreak havok.

Pfff, that hack? You’d think they could pony up to at least try to get the guy who originally played Chekov.

Thanks for the advice. Sounds good.
