The Arma 3 hype thread

I used to pour hours upon hours into Operation Flashpoint. So in a sense, it feels very much like coming home. Game hasn’t changed all that much tbh.

Nope, it really hasn’t. Some of OPF’s (and the earlier Arma) dumb UI and control decisions have been smoothed out in Arma 3, but it’s still that janky, impenetrable, wonderful mess only BI could create.

Saw they marketing a Czech Soviet Era scenario for Arma 3 now. Which I guess is what most people wanted instead of the future tech stuff they pulled.

Wonder if someone has ported the OpF/Arma2 stuff to ARMA3, would be nice to run with a better engine.

It seems they are starting to port the Cold War Rearmed mod (which was the OFP campaign in Arma 2) to Arma 3. But they have started this year so who knows when it will be finished.

Everyone make sure to update Arma 3 in Steam to the giant new 2.0 update which includes a ton of changes, but most importantly:

You can also enjoy a lifetime’s virtual supply of “Arma” Eau de Combat , which is now available as an in-game glass perfume bottle prop. Who doesn’t love the smell of combat in the morning?

For everyone getting all worked up, it’s mainly server-side and scripting changes.

Content itself is pretty much limited to recolors.

Oh, and the previously-mentioned Tacticool Drakkar Noir bottles. Wondering if BI is trying to take the piss out of their more milsim neckbeardy fans, or what.

They fixed it so you get all the addons you’re missing when you connect to a server now, or do you need to use the launcher++ for that still (assuming you find a server that isn’t running some RPG Sim or wtf it was…)

whispers “Charlie”

The new Western Sahara DLC just dropped. For $5 its a no brainer. It has a good single player scenario where you’re a military contractor trying to rescue a journalist held by rebels, you have to hunt down clues across the map with his location.

Ohhh might have to get back into this.

Youtube served me this video on the start page

Which source is https://enfusionengine.com/ , it seems the page for their new engine opened some days ago.

An interesting point is this:
"The Enfusion Workbench also connects to our backend systems, including our own multiplatform workshop solution. Combined with this workshop, the Workbench also serves as a fully integrated environment for developing, packing, and publishing mods for Enfusion games. "

They will have their own backend and mod workshop solution, so it seems they will skip using Steam’s.

In some way they are offering too their first screenshots of Arma 4…

…because what, are we supposed to believe they created that big, detailed terrain with all those art assets just to put them as screenshot examples of the engine in a obscure marketing website? Nah, that doesn’t make sense. That surely is taken from their current development of Arma 4.
In fact they could have renderred whatever other thing if just wanted to test the engine, like something cartoony or a random modern city model. But that’s LOOKS LIKE the Arma style of the previous games.

Epic store exclusive incoming?

Haha! That’s exactly what came to my mind as well.

Still, if not exclusive, it seems a lot of devs are going this route just so they can offer their game on platforms outside of Steam but still control mods as well.

I’m confused. I thought they just sold themselves to a government for military sim contracts?

No?

Many years ago they established a second company for military contracts. https://www.bisimulations.com/
But that was around Arma 1 times.

In part it’s because they want to offer mods too to consoles… but I also wonder if they will try to make their own launcher/store, and offer the eventual commercial mods there too.

Youtube decided to serve me an Arma 3 video this morning. I was amused by it…

Not the Arma 3 I remember…

Maybe the rumored remake of Cold War Crisis in the new engine?
