I don’t remember it this way. We (as in the Qt3 community) were mostly bitterly disappointed by his 2016 victory, but for the most part we gritted our teeth and talked about how he would have to learn how to compromise in order to govern effectively, how many of his announced cabinet picks gave us hope that he was surrounding himself (here and there) with mainstream GOP people, and that – surely! – the grandeur and weight of the office of POTUS would moderate his actions.

We even had a “President Trump optimism thread!”

I will live to see what was only science fiction in my youth become reality. Granted, I would have preferred to see flying cars instead of an authoritarian dystopia. But hey, we’re living in the future!
