The Terrible Album Cover Thread

Though I am a huge Rush fan, some of their older albums had some bad covers. Not bad like those posted already, just weak, lame covers. However, the “Working Man” tribute album has a really awful cover. One of those I don’t want people to see covers. I really think it was supposed to be cool. Fail.

I’ve seen worse. In this very thread in fact.

Dude. What. The. Fuck.

I decided you can look if you want, its for a metal band called “Cattle Decapitation” and I think its funny, but I can see where you might not want to see, so I am replacing the picture with a link.

EDIT: I even feel bad about that, I posted it because I own the album and know its gross and funny. But still, mostly gross. To make up I’m going to post one of my favorite album covers of alllllllllll tiiiiiiimmeee

I seem to recall there was a much, much filthier version of that Ohio Players cover.

You may be thinking of the inside sleeve (yes I own this album and I bought it for the cover and I do not regret it).

Is that the skeleton of Bret Hart?

This thread delivers.

(the stuff of nightmares)

I actually feel better about owning that Boney M. album now!

Makes me think of the part in “Touching the Void” where the guy describes knowing he is dying and cannot get Boney M out of his head and he is driven forward by how much he hates Boney M.

Why, I do believe you are correct, sir. Oh, filthy 70s rock covers. How would I have made it through puberty without you? There’s only so much the Sears catalog can do.

That was pretty much the public reaction when the album was released.

They would never get away with this now days, because her breasts would be fully developed by now.

Okay. NEW RULE:

If you’re going to link to something that is arguably child porn, we need more than a fucking NSFW tab. Jackass.

H.

Is that really a new rule?

Yeah. It’s a bad cover, but even worse relative to other Rush cover art, which is usually quite good. They had some weak covers before Permanent Waves (though I really like the cover for Farewell to Kings), but most of their cover art since then has been uniformly excellent.

What if he’d linked to the Blind Faith album cover, which is pretty much just as bad, but more famous?

BTW, the “Headache” ep cover (the original, cheese) from Big Black clearly belongs. At the 1988 New Music Seminar, my buddy Chewie bought that sucker and on the subway through midtown he got a whole lot of looks.

(See also: any Unsane CD cover from the 1990’s. I won’t link 'em; glorying in real-life death photos is pretty sick.)

Not wanting to start a raging debate (okay I lie), but looking at that cover I’m not sure how it’s as bad or even a problem. It’s just a young girl with her shirt off holding a model plane. The nudity itself just doesn’t seem something to get worked up over.

“Virgin Killer” on the other hand has, um, less-than-subtle dark implications.

I s’pose. I pretty much know what the Virgin Killer album cover looks like, so I didn’t feel much interest in studying it. In both covers, you’ve got an underaged child featured prominently; the VK album cover was rejected pretty much everywhere outside of Germany when it was originally issued.

I’ve got a repulsion to sticky and that cover art (especially the inside sleeve) has always made me quite ambivalent.
