What 5 movies would you want to watch at pretty much any time?

I think we’ve determined that The Fifth Element is QT3’s favorite film ;)

I am… ok with this.

In no particular order

The big sleep
Good, bad and the ugly
Chinatown
Where eagles dare
Von Ryan’s express

I don’t like The Fifth Element. There, I said it. I feel better.

Alien
Goodfellas
Citizen Kane
Singin’ In The Rain
All About Eve

Jaws
Aliens
The Good The Bad and The Ugly
The Godfather
Once Upon a Time in The West

(Heat, Matrix and Pulp Fiction would be others)

Me neither.

Count me in as well.

Seems like Princess Bride is showing up on a lot of lists.

That vs. Fifth Element? Hmmm.

Well, it is eminently quotable. Mandy Patinkin is great in the film. And it has one of the best sword fights ever filmed.

Absolutely no snark intended. Princess Bride is one of my favorites too. I honestly don’t know which I’d pick between the two, but am edging towards Princess Bride as having fewer overall flaws.

I can’t take Billy Crystal anymore. He’s worn out his welcome in my head.

I thought of a few more that I can stop at and watch to conclusion when channel surfing:

  • Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
  • Snatch
  • Emperor of the North

The Lion King. Yeah it’s not original, yeah it supports the patriarchy blah blah. It’s fun and easy to watch and the song timings and introductions are just spot on. It’s also a timeless movie. Not outdated by technology etc.

The Princess Bride - pure popcorn have fun movie.

Little Mermaid. My favourite Disney movie. Sebastian the crab was my role model as a child. Prince Eric is a dweeb. Ursula rocks.

Gladiator. Not quite as easy watching, but the basic movie arc is satisfying. General who became a slave, slave who became a gladiator, gladiator who defied an emperor… Plus the music is pretty good, even if part of it got lifted wholesale by the composer and put into the next film on my list :

Pirates of the Caribbean 1. “Why did you burn the rum ?”

Princess Bride- Greatest Rom Com ever made
Battlefield Los Angeles - Greatest Alien Invasion of modern earth made
Aliens- Greatest Aliens movie ever made
Aliens versus Predator Requiem- Aliens and my guilty please
Saving Private Ryan - Greatest War movie ever made behind Band of Brother series

Not that these are the best films ever or anything, but so easy and fun to watch anytime.

  1. Princess Bride - still love everything about it, as well as quoting the entire movie
  2. Buckaroo Banzai - natch
  3. Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - so much fun from start to finish
  4. Toy Story - just a perfect movie for everyone
  5. Monty Python and the Holy Grail - again with the quotes, forever and ever

Strange Brew, Airplane, Caddyshack, Vacation and a lot more from that era of fun silliness would be up there too

Aliens
The Fifth Element
Princess Bride
Mad Max Fury Road
The Lord of the Rings

Aliens
The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Princess Mononoke
Princess Bride

Not sure on a 5th, but those 4 always got watched if they were on when I had cable and if any of them came on.

Sorry, didn’t intend to reply to @roguefrog directly!

5 off the top of my head, in no particular order:

Logan
Iron Man 3
Predator
Terminator 2
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country

This is tough

Memento or Prestige
Big Lebowski
Any Guy Ritchie movie
Grand Budapest Hotel
The Conversation

fine-tuning this list will result in:

Barry Lyndon
The Royal Tenebaums
Fargo
Adaption
Memento

now I am missing out on Guy Ritchie, also I should add some Bond movie or Spielberg/Lucas

Close Encounters
Lock Stock something Barrels
A Bridge too Far
Star Wars or THX 1138
Jaws

ok, impossible. I would at least watch over 20 movies at anytime…

I have fond memories of this, but I was rewatching it recently and the bit in the middle with Steve Martin being learning disabled…uff…just not cool.

The movie itself also aged a bit.
