X Rebirth

This game has no future whatsoever, its too far away from where it needs to be to be able to fixed. They should have known better, but its easy to get ambitious in the wrong direction I guess.

Have you played it recently to say this? Genuine question and not a smart-ass thingie :-) Some people do seem to enjoy it, you see!

15 or so posts above this (5 months ago) Janster is applying for a refund so my guess is no. :)

Look, put some hours into it, it sucked then, and the changes it need will require more than a patch for me. This game is a weaker less featured version of privateer. You have almost no upgrade options for the ship…bleh

It has had 19 patches or so by now? And there are more options now for the ship, which is why I asked whether you’ve played it recently. Sure - just like Rome:Tw 2 it sucked majorly at launch, but Rome:TW 2 is actually in pretty good shape by now, and several people are reporting the game has improved immensely.

Hmm, well if you say so, might pick it up again on a sale one say then, and yes, Rome is much improved, but last night I had to sit at max speed until battle was over because the AI didn’t start the siege. I went out and engaged, but nothing helped, also massive slowdowns during sieges…sooooo I’m not happy yet there either.

Ouch - that sounds nasty. I played…a few weeks ago I think, and it did reasonably well actually - I did read some people complaining about siege AI so there is that.

As for X Rebirth itself - I’m going to play once the current 2.0 edition I think they call it, is out and I’ll report back here :-)

Whenever I’ve looked at the patch notes, the bulk of them have been about fixing bugs. While Rebirth was definitely riddled with bugs and needed the fixes, it would still be a terrible game even if they were all eliminated. There really was no game there. I mean, sure, you have this spaceship and fly around, but there was no point to any of the game systems. You can go about and earn money (most efficiently by looking lockers in stations for random trash), great. Too bad there was really nothing to do with said money. Ship upgrades were practically non-existent and what little was there was extremely boring. Oh, awesome, I replaced my Laser with a Laser II, and now that’s the end of gun upgrades. Yay.

Anyway, given the complete lack of… well… game in the game, I’m extremely skeptical they were able to put one in there in one patch, regardless of what version number they would like to call it. Unfortunately, it is lightyears away from even being remotely as good as X3 (which had it’s own host of issues and problems). I just don’t think this game is salvageable with patching, they need a massive overhaul of the entire thing, if not a new game completely. Maybe 2.0 is such a complete overhaul but again, I’m skeptical.

Nope. Installed, played for two hours. Same bland game. Nothing here but some rough idea for a game that will never happen. Sad but true. Egosoft screwed themselves on this one.

Fixed.

And what a bad time to do that! Star Citizen, Elite: Dangerous and Limit Theory right around the corner. I wonder IF it was because of those that they felt they had to (seemingly) rush this out like they did? Sure i understand there were other concerns like the console version not getting the go ahead and financial pressures this put on them, but what a time to even think putting out the game they did was the only thing to do!

I liked most of the X games (X2 and X3 being my favourites, and with some mods they were/are great games in the genre) and was really happy that they were around when no other games were really doing the big open world space thing, BUT. What a way to pretty much destroy your franchise and company! It is (sadly) going to be incredibly difficult for Egosoft to recover from this, not impossible, but pretty improbable. They would have to do something like Stardock did with Fallen Enchantress and give a new (much better) game away to those that bought this game, something in that kind of ball park, to get some of the player trust back.

Apparently there’s a new go-to mod for X3:AP: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=365706&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

Among the “features” is the fact it runs better than the basic game, especially for big battles, while it should retain the bells and whistles of the other mods.

64-bit

The system requirements for the game have always stated that it requires a 64-bit version of Windows, and the 64-bit version of the game is now successfully in general use. This is likely to be the last major version for which a 32-bit executable is available.

Or not.

Good on them to finally deliver a 64-bit executable for a game that required a 64-bit OS.

Anyone think the patches since launch, plus this future expansion, will make the game somewhat enjoyable?

Er…where does one actually GET this expansion?

Gah, nevermind, it’s right there on the Steam page.

No.456

What with Beta 2 of Elite Dangerous coming in a few days and the finished product (supposedly) out by Christmas, I’m gonna stand pat till I hear some glowing reviews.

Hope you’re wearing comfortable shoes.

I might also direct you all to the X3: Terran Conflict thread if you want some X-goodness. Specifically, my interactions with the game begin on page 11. ;-)
