well, it might be wrong, but weirdly enough the atari logo was what made me figure out the image.

Classic video game nerd to the rescue!

Atari had the complete home video rights to Pac man. Any official release for all consoles and computers until 1985 was released by Atari either under Atari, Atarisoft, or Tengen. Tengen name was only used for the NES release. This might be only in the US, i’m not sure what Europe did. I have a CBS colecovision cart from the UK with pacman on it. The box shows it as being sold by CBS but in game, its the same rom as coded by atari complete with the same copyright info. So the Atari logo is completely justified.

The arcade cabinet Pacman is the one true Pacman.

Checking my copy of Mastering Pac-Man by Ken Uston, it says on the cover: “Pac-Man™ is a trademark of the Midway Manufacturing Company.” QED.

What does ANY of that have to do with showing pretty pictures!? Stop derailing! :P

“Manholes of Venus”? Did those kids find some sci-fi porn on Dad’s computer?

Sounds more interesting than the games they’re playing.

Man, what douchebag friends that kid has. “Later, baby” made me laugh, though.

Oh, no! The kids are into Dad’s “financial records” again!

You are correct, sir! They also owned the rights to the NAME of Defender for the Apple II. However, they didn’t actually own the rights to the GAME Defender; that was owned by Sega (I think). And due to this confusion, Joe Holt released his awesome completely public-domain “copyright laws are outrageous!” version of Defender for the Apple II, which nearly duplicated the arcade experience – but of course was completely free. Plus rant. Very awesome rant. With funny grumpy buzz noises with each page of the rant.

It’s almost impossible to find even a link to it with a google search, but i think “joe holt defender apple ii” works…

Edit: It’s also hilarious that he wrote “It’ll be a cold day in a hell before Atari releases an Apple game” in his rant… given the later existence of Atarisoft :)

As I mentioned above, I change my desktop to reflect the game I’m playing. I wonder if anyone can guess what I’m playing based on this screenshot I took and am currently using:

Super Mario Galaxy?

That was obviously taken from Minesweeper. Duh.
