Not sure if anyoneβs been following but Hikaru Nakamura took a break from his streaming career to play his first classical tourney in 2+ years to play in the FIDE Grand Prix and came out as the winner of the first leg of the tourney.
Crazy stuff!
Hikaruβs performance was really impressive. In his post-match interviews, he credits a lot of his success to just being in a happier place and not caring about the results as much as he used to. Thereβs probably a lesson in there for everyone.
I tried this on two devices, so this is not a valid effort. Thanks for the link!

Iβm sure that had to be very liberating to not really have a worry about what the final result was going to be and just having fun. Heβs obviously competitive and wants to win, but with it not being his main focus now it seemed to make it a lot nicer for him. Happy that it went so well for him too, now what can the complainers say about his invitation.
Yep, chose the wrong variation .:) So much of this is just luck, especially getting it in 2 or 3.
I saw an analysis he did of one of his games; he did really well! He mentioned he thought his opponent would think he was weak on prep, but noooope. :-)

Kind of forgot to include some previous moves in the 2nd attempt there.

Can any of you recommend a chess clock that makes no ticking noise? I suppose digital clocks donβt? A family has asked for one for his birthday. I see lots of choices on Amazon but donβt know what to get. Is digital preferred these days? I imagine those donβt tick?
Yeah, the digital ones donβt make ticking noises, and if it is for playing serious chess they are probably the better choice these days since they can do increments which are commonly used. There seems to be a better selection available these days. It used to be basically chronos and dgt.
we use this in our club and I own one too. Highly recommended, many presets. Easy to use.
Thanks for those suggestions. Thatβs very helpful!
I have this, itβs pretty good and comes with a lot of presets typical of American chess tournaments.
