Battlefield 2042 - DICE Goes Back to the Future, Just Not the 2142 Future

It’s a damn good time. Sniping feels really good and bullet drop is real. I turned the FOV way up but actually had to scale it back to 80 as it was making me a little woozy up higher. Best round was my last one. I just went 12-0 in a tank. Spawned it to start the match and never died. Blew a Hokum right out of the sky with the main gun. That was an effing SHOT! Only in Battlefield as they say. :)

Just wish I was streaming the whole thing. That was a great round.

Kits are growing on me now and the lag was better last session.

The spawn rate for vehicles seems quick, wonder if that is a beta thing or result of bigger maps and player counts?

Wish the HQ spawn always had a few default bikes or jeeps, sucks huffing it from the base when everyone speeds off in their vehicles.

If that happens, just wait for the first cap to finish and spawn at the completed capture point.

Or let your squadmate do the running why you mess with your loadout and then just spawn on them when they are closer.

That being said I was never not ever to spawn a jeep at hq at min. They seemed unlimited. You can also call for a jeep drop with the B or T button. Cant recall which but its a popup tip on loading screen. You pick the drop zone and 15 seconds later jeep.

Yeah thats right , it was on the loading screen, now I recall! :D

Good point on the LATV4 you can call in. The minigun on there shreds too. One tip for those types of transportation is to not drive them right into the thick of the fighting. Get close and park on a level surface and then switch to the gunner seat and get some quick kills before you close in on the action. You can make the difference in a capture with them as long as no one’s skulking around where you stop.

I think I love it. It’s very chaotic and messy with shit going on everywhere. I am not really trying to win at all and I have been in vehicles 80% of the time. Just a terrible teammate right now as I play with all the new toys. Unless of course you like riding shotgun in a death machine. If there is a record for roadkills I will break it. I think I had 15 to 20 last night in my final round. That little spawnable jeep is nimble, tough and quick enough to mow over entire squads. I think I caught 50’+ of air as well as you can jump everything! I even jumped into the hangar and landed/pinned some poor dude against a wall. I jumped: hills, concrete embankments, construction material, parked cars even a tank. Ran right over it all full speed head on squashing the guy running around it. I squashed three guys at once on the long runway towards the rocket in a power slide cackling like a madman the entire time. I even yelled “wolverines” in the mic after ramming the Russian AA tank off a cliff. I had my entire squad howling with laughter.

Other notes: Graphically it’s super busy and very lifelike. By the ocean there are seabirds everywhere and they can be distracting when aiming rockets from helios. Other areas it is dust and what looks like dandelions floating everywhere. Of course smoke and debris from destruction is everywhere as well. So far I have also seen visibility reducing rain storms that make flying the Little Jay tough as the rain beads down windshields to a full blown Tornado that was awesome. I flew the transport ship into it and we all bailed out and parachuted through it…Madness! Just wait till you fly next to the rocket tacking off, flipped my little bird right over end over end over end.

It’s still a bit glitchy and laggy here and there and I’ve seen some typical weird physics stuff but yep, I think I love it.

One thing I’ve noticed is a distinct lack of people carrying man portable rocket launchers to take out vehicles. I didn’t look closely at the loadouts last night so they might not be there, but those have always been the bane of a tanker or pilot. On these maps I can easily see them being even more difficult to spot and eliminate.

One thing from BF4/1/V that’s missing is the stationary gun emplacements you could man at various capture points. They aren’t the type of thing you’d use all the time but are super useful when vehicles are approaching or massed infantry. The final game may have that sort of thing though. It’s just one map.

I’m not sure about the specialist thing yet. Having everyone in the game be one of only four different character models is pretty dumb. The whole point of Battlefield is that I’m JAG, until I do something amazing. Having us all be these specific people (and many of them… cloned) is odd.

I downloaded and tried to get onto this last night on my Series S. I kept getting errors saying there were no servers (or something similar) and eventually gave up figuring I had the time of the beta wrong. I was only gonna play for an hour or so and won’t be able to this weekend, but wanted to see how a BF played on console, since that’s where I’ll prob play. So was it just that the servers were full or something? Oh well, enjoy the BF goodness this weekend everyone.

Oh yea, it’s light and quick so use it in that way. I circle the spawn points with my gunner laying down fire while I run anyone over brave enough to venture out. The bad guys mistakenly focus on me while smart teammates spawn on me and jump out to capture. I’m like a swirling dervish of chaos that demands attention. Suckers!

Great point here. I loved those in last one.

I had some connection issues as well, just had to hit the retry button a few times till it worked.

Cool. I tried a few times, but just didn’t have time anyway for a long session so let it drop when I couldn’t get on. Glad this seems very BFy. Some of my most enjoyable gaming was back with the original BF42 and some of the others thru the years. Its gotten so much more complicated though with specializations and stuff. So I’m hoping I can jump in on the ground floor and not be so far behind everyone else.

Can confirm they are there (one at lest). I hit a tank with 2 shots and it ran off smoking so maybe 3 can take one out? Only other option I saw was throwable charges which I threw on the hood of my jeep for extra ramming umph. :)

I thought I saw one but wasn’t sure so I didn’t want to be definitive. I’m definitely throwing one of those in my loadout tonight. Sometimes it’s good to have simply as a deterrent.

@lordkosc is also right that the drone is ridiculously useful. I helped our team take a point singlehandedly marking every incoming and cockroach-like soldier in and around the building. I enjoyed watching my guys taking them out. It was like TV. There’s a whole conversation to be had there regarding real war and this kind of tech, but man is it powerful.

A lot of folks who play these games don’t realize just how important spotting is. When you’ve got people marked, all guns point that way and they’re dead.

Watching some twitch streams yesterday I saw some type of manpad, and also someone had a carl gustav looking rocket launcher. So I think it is just people not picking them.

The drone reminds me of a mini commander mode. It even has an EMP!

Portable turret, grappling hook oh my. Just played a couple rounds fiddling with those. Also, the sensor grenade is underrated. The healing dart/thingie is a hoot. Lots of toys!

The ziplines all over the map are great as well. Ride one all the way up to a tower then play with your drone :) when you jump off Hold shift when parachuting and you can glide half way across the map.

I may or may not have called in a tank drop on top of the giant building. It was flanked by multiple robo dogs. I would have preferred the AA vehicle but beggars can’t be choosers.

Anyone else getting that Bad Company 2 level of enjoyment out of this game?

I dunno if its the pacing, the gear offered, the map flow, or what. But I am totally feeling it.

Get in there and fly through that 'Nado!

This really does fell like the Magna Opus of the Battlefield series.

I played an entire match just defending/recapturing one flag. I would switch roles and gear as needed for defending or attacking. The most gunplay I have had yet and it was really solid. Sniper rifle, ammo box, and drone from atop the tower overlooking the capture point made me a one man defending dynamo. If we lost the capture point I would just wait till most of the enemy left than parachute down, recapture and zip back up the tower to defend.

Fun thing I did was at my Tower spot I followed the full squad that just captured that point half way across the map with the drone. I was at time’s close enough to them to almost touch. Their attempt to sneak up on another capture failed miserably as they were all highlighted the entire journey there and my teammates were just waiting in ambush. A very satisfying 5 minutes of gamplay that is pretty unique. So many ways to “play” this game.
In ten matches I have seen 2 tornadoes, lot’s of storms, 1 rocket launch, a couple almost launches (warming up) and 1 time the rocket got blown up. Can we effect the rocket launch or is just random?
