Going by geographic area, most of America is very homogeneous. And I think this might be a big part of the problem, as America looks and feels homogeneous to the people who live in it. Also, if liberals keep concentrating themselves in cities, the popular vote is going to continue to be meaningless WRT the electoral college. (I like pristine wilderness, but “out in the country” things really suck, IMO.)
Also, there was a very very sharp left-right schism in Germany in the years before WWII, just like there is in the US right now. The Nazis almost did not gain power viz a viz the communist party.
I think one key difference in the corporate response to the two productions is simply that most people who wrote about and talked about our production — the one with an Obama-inspired Caesar — actually saw the show, where it is clear that most of those outraged by The Public Theater’s Trumpian emperor either didn’t see the play or didn’t stay to the end.
The Breitbart article that started the controversy is — I kid you not — a review by someone who talked to someone who saw the show. This second-order correspondent also thinks the play ends with the death of Caesar, as if they are killing the bad guy at the end of a superhero movie. In fact, the assassination takes place in the middle of the play, the rest of which deals with the terrible consequences of this action. Shakespeare built the outrage into the text. Mark Antony is so outraged — for himself, and on our behalf — that outrage suffuses the play’s entire second half. If you see a production, you get outraged with the play, not against it.

You know normally i’m a pretty sharp guy and can figure out pop culture references, youth slang ect pretty effortlessly even if i’m not participating in it myself. But those last few tweets posted are pure barbarian to me.
What is this FreeLaura thing?
I’ll summarize:
Spencer and Posobiec are both alt-right slime calling each other names. Spencer hits home on his point because he’s actually right for once. Posobiec has no idea what the play is about and has likely never read a word of Shakespeare.
Connected to it is the whole “FreeLaura” thing. Basically woman got up on stage and disrupted said play and got arrested. Only she set up the fundraiser before she was arrested and the fines are less than she’ll get from it. Also she walked into the middle of a play where people have prop knives and somehow they’re claiming it’s violent leftists coming to kill her or some stupidity. Knives in Julius Caesar? Who could have foreseen that other than most people with a GED or awareness of Western civilization?
Last one is a white nationalist who is leaving the alt-right because… reasons. Apparently his insane racism is fine, but he finds the alt-right morally indefensible. Probably because of the Pepe people? Spencer? He really loves Shakespeare? Who knows, it’s just crazy to see a virulent racist talk about how he’s totally still a virulent racist, but these other racists are just immoral.
Chick that interrupted Shakespeare is an obvious scam to fill her pockets and people are just throwing money at her.
The fine is estimated at maybe $1k tops. She’s already got $10k and her goal is $25k. Of course stupid people are throwing cash at her. So apparently you can make a living just getting arrested for minor misdemeanors and people will “pay” for your “legal expenses.” You know like a new car or maybe a big screen TV.
Basically a self-made martyr/con situation.
There is probably better value in giving her $25k than donating $25m to a candidate running for office.
