Star Citizen - Chris Roberts, lots of spaceship porn, lots of promises

Wow, so this thread actually saved you some money, huh?

That’s making a difference, one person, one dollar at a time! Every dollar saved from the abyss counts.

I want to explore a realistic universe that includes real stars and planet surfaces, for free! Well then, that would be Space Engine.

I want Space Engine, but with less-interesting planets, and I want to shoot stuff, trade, etc. Why, that would be Elite Dangerous.

I want Elite, but I want it single-player only, and don’t mind a little loss of fidelity. Hey, that’s basically Evochron Legacy.

I want to explore a completely unrealistic, but very colorful universe, including aliens!. Annnnd that’s No Man’s Sky.

I want something completely different in space. I loved the naval combat in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, so… Goddamn, it’s your lucky day… Rebel Galaxy is all for you.

I want to hopelessly dump money into a product that I’m locked in to, a product that I can invest myself in so much that I’m willing to completely suspend disbelief and reason about what I’ve been suckered in to… see thread title.

Whoa pls tell me moar

Well if ya don’t know, now ya know

I’m not really a sci-fi guy but this thread keeps me reading on. It’s crazy to me how as a 1 man game maker I would do almost anything to make a game within scope for 10K, and how, broken promises in games has basically become the culture. I watched a video on YouTube on how the E3 footage is always basically a lie from what you get on the shelf. And then the EA moves, it just kind of makes me sad to see what games have become when I think about games like Chrono Trigger that gave me 40+ hours of game for 25 bucks and my local game store used.

Color me intrigued.

That’s what I thought too.

Until I went to download it. I saw that I had already downloaded it back on April 4th. I just had forgotten about it shortly after apparently, because I never installed it. It must have been through a post here on Qt3 somewhere that I found it.

This thread very nearly caused me to spend that money too!
For someone like me, I guess I shouldn’t be watching videos like that. Space porn indeed.
You guys are my safety net.

Like for the Hamilton reference.

I’m going to be that “actually” guy and just point out that Evochron Legacy has multiplayer too. :)

Elite has single player you asosial beast

I thought I was representing Notorious B.I.G. but IKR

That Asosial Beast looks kind of nifty, actually.

Because 1e D&D art is the best. 70s-style tipping between amateur PeeChee doodling and actual professional art.

Also:

The fundamental flaw in E:D is that it really doesn’t know what kind of critter it is. It started out early in its development as balanced for SP. Then that went away, and now it, like every other game that tries to manage simultaneous stat/weapon/etc. balancing between SP and MP (hi, The Division!, shits all over itself in one direction or another.

The Evochron games were never balanced for competitive MP. I guess that’s why I consider it SP and Elite MP.

Erol Otus and Trampy for life yo

I agree with your assessment on both titles. I’m probably an outlier, but what I really want in games is to take a terrific single-player experience and just let me play with my nephew or a friend if I so desire. I think Divinity: Original Sin 2 is a good example. I have plenty of fun on my own, but if a friend or two wants to join? Hop on in!

I wanted that with the Elite multiplayer. Just give me an awesome Elite experience and let a friend tag along. Don’t try to turn it into this wishy-washy wannabe-but-not-really MMO that leaves no one happy. The design of a lot of stuff in Elite is just an absolute mess. I know we’ve talked about that in other threads, so no need for me to poop in this one, but man… the game is so incredible in certain areas it makes it’s faults all the more frustrating. I wish the whole thing just sucked so that I didn’t ever have to think about what the game could be!

Evochron can totally let you do that if you join the same server.

Yep, for sure. I love Evochron.

E:D got bad? Bummer.

E:D isn’t bad, it’s just fairly empty. Which is a quality I kind of appreciate in my space sims.
