Who the hell has the money for this, assuming good intentions? I know Americans have much higher wages than this lovely little country by the sea, but isn’t your rent super expensive too? How does this sound like a sound investment** when it would involve a constant stream of money? I know that people don’t add up micro-transactions, because humans are dumb with numbers, but this… I don’t get it.
** SC is not a real financial investment, the usage is figurative
Roberts keeps throwing out ‘Crysis’-level graphics fidelity. I’m thinking he either bought that line hook and sinker from Crytek when they were pitching the engine or he doesn’t realize that Crysis is now a whopping 10 years old.
No they haven’t. At least not from what I’ve read. You can buy the same land claim beacon you can buy in-game with UEC. That’s all you are buying with real-money instead of in-game credits. It’s like a gift certificate for a land claim deed. But you still need to go find the land and claim it the same way a player buying it in-game would.
These claims are essentially preordering the paperwork and beacon to claim a parcel of land, which you still have to hunt down and prospect (if you want to see if there’s anything worthwhile there, which will vary depending who’s looking to own it).
It’s only a legal document and a beacon. Unless you shoot the interlopers looking to walk around your plot, it does nothing other than being able to report them for trespassing.
This only applies to UEE space.
These will be 100% purchasable in-game for credits, and the mechanic isn’t close to being implemented.
But it sounds more sexy when you accuse them of selling land.
It’s a different kind of jpg, sure. A beacon instead of a ship.
The distinction is kind of irrelevant, at least in my eyes. The point (complaint) still stands that they’re now selling beacon JPEGs for yet another feature yet to be implemented behind… well, all of the rest.
For how much UEC? Oh, wait, no one knows. It could be an outrageous amount in UEC, but no one really knows! And you can’t buy it right now with UEC. The only way to buy it right now is using cash. Oh yeah, and store credit doesn’t count.
BTW, you know when you buy a house? You actually buy a legal document! Unless you shoot the interlopers looking to walk around your plot, it does nothing other than being able to report them for trespassing.
Though I suppose you can sell a house! But good luck selling beacons in UEE space. Especially after Star Citizen crashes and burns.
Maybe I’m not understanding this right but that sounds worse to me. So instead of selling land, they are selling the paperwork for land? Isn’t the logical next step to sell the land itself?
