Star Trek Online - QtTHREEEEE IIIINNN SPAAAAAACE! (launch/roll call/gameplay thread)

While I appreciate the effort, that screenshot is to this thread what a sex tape of two out-of-shape octogenarians is to porn.

Seriously, though, I wouldn’t have given you guff if I’d known you were on an Xbox. I’m not sure I even realized Star Trek Online was on consoles! Do people with PCs, Xboxes, and Playstations all play on the same server? And can I use my PC account’s ships and characters and so forth on the PS4 version of the game?

I was kind of curious if I could get a screenshot to begin with. Which I can, but I can’t really zoom in much better than that. At least I couldn’t figure out how to, I’ll try again later tonight.

I played a lot on the PC before they released on consoles last month, and I’m really liking playing on my Xbox. It’s nice to have the couch with the big TV, better sound, all that. But no, you can’t play with folks on the PC or on PS4. You can’t pick up your character from the PC, I started over completely with a new character. And owning this ship on the Xbox doesn’t confer any ability to fly with it on my PC character. So, maybe not the best deal, but I still say I’ve gotten pretty decent value for what I’ve spent (even counting the dough I dropped on the loot boxes).

Oh wait, I know! I’ll get some shots of the bridge of this ship. It looks just like the actual bridge from the newest movie, like the inside of an iPod!

Ahem.

I guess I shouldn’t have expected otherwise, but that’s a damn shame. :(

It is a drag, and would be a blast to be able to play with folks on the other platforms. Not really sure why it hasn’t been enabled, but I’m guessing it’s partly because Xbox and PS4 aren’t on the same code base as the PC game, they don’t have all the features enabled. There’s a cool mini-game where you can send officers out on missions, kind of like the assassin missions on some of the Assassin’s Creed game. I think this one is coming to console though, while I was tooling around in my new ship’s bridge I found a console I could play with that brought up the menu for this function, though it didn’t do anything.

I realize this is yet another ship without some sweet spaceship porn, I’ll get some pics tonight. See if I can get some better angles and zoom in a bit more.

Secretly I want to play this game on PS4, I fear I have become a bit of a Trekkie as of late…

I have a boring run-of-the-mill assault cruiser, but I’ll try to figure out how to take some screenshots. How do you guys get all those cool views?

Also, should my Tactical Officer take the Hull Restoration skill? Does my guy have a space skill that allows him to heal his hull? Obviously I’m a bit out of practice…

Oh hey, sorry for yet another porn-free post, but I wanted to share something that I only just recently learned about the Kelvin timeline starships, which I found out by way of Star Trek Online.

I noticed when I flew my Constitution class ship out of spacedock the first time that it was significantly larger than most other ships, all but the largest warships. I thought this was a bit odd so I did a bit of digging and this is true to the new Abrams films. So for an idea of scale: the original TV series Enterprise is estimated 288 meters. The new timeline Enterprise was planned to be 370 meters, a bit larger but not drastically so. But when they looked at the scale, things like the shuttle bay entrance, they realized that in order to realistically contain all they had in it they needed to bump its scale, up to 720 meters. Basically doubling its size, up to half a mile long (bigger than the Galactica, estimated to be 615 meters long). Which seems a bit crazy, but what can you do?

But then consider the other ship you can get now from the Kelvin timeline Federation, the Dreadnought class Vengeance (the one Cumberkhan designed for the Federation in Into Darkness, the one that looks like a big black bottle opener - it’s up above a few posts in one of Knightsaber’s posts). It’s twice as big as the Enterprise, at over 1500 meters or one mile in length. It’s a beast, and that’s reflected in game as well (though I haven’t come across one yet).

Just so you know I didn’t pull all these numbers out of my ass, have a picture:

I get a chuckle at Star Trek ships that really pushed a sleek “aero dynamic” design" even though they fly in space. What I always liked what they did with the borg, just a giant cube.

My hatred of the nacelles on the new enterprise remains strong, a part of me is glad the ship gets destroyed every movie. :p

Soooo anyone still playing, maybe in quartertofleet? I recently rejoined and have a ton of fun. Not sure if I am going Klingon or TOS or Starfleet yet, but it stands up well after all these years.

Right there with ya. In fact, all the silhouette lines and proportions, not just the nacelles, are awful. Like someone handed a failing design student the Enterprise A and said, “just mush things around a bit”, and they pinched and pulled in all the wrong places.

The Enterprise C is a fat goose, but at least she’s too dull to be objectionable. The Enterprise B is a sexy, sexy beast.

So how is this on the Xbone? I’ve played it on the PC over the years and had fun for a while what with building ships and whatnot. But the last time I tried last year it was so complicated getting started. But if I can sit on my bum on the couch and play, it was good enough to warrant another few missions. Maybe even spend some money on SpaceBucks since they’re on sale on the Xbone store this week.

lostcawz, you are so lucky because I may be the only dude on these boards who can answer your question: STO on Xbox is pretty cool! It had been a while since I played on PC when I started on the Xbone and I noticed the early missions had changed. And keep in mind that nothing will carry over to the console game, you’re starting over and that includes anything you bought on the PC, if that makes a difference to you. But I much prefer playing with a controller personally and don’t find the load times or graphics to be all that bad - I expected worse honestly.

Nice! I really didn’t figure anyone could answer this until I saw your post a few weeks ago (or noticed it a few weeks ago anyway). I have no cares about carrying over anything as I have little to carry over and the initial few weeks of building up a cool spaceship was the most enjoyable part.

Have they added the away missions for officers? Seems like I read they had.

Oh, sorry Tom, for bumping without adding any cool spaceshipporn. maybe this will suffice…

They have. I log in every day to at least go through those.

So I finally jumped in. Enjoying the whole thing from sitting on my couch and playing with the controller is pretty intuitive so far anyway.

The whole linking of accounts is insane though. I couldn’t link the xbox account to my arc account because it said it was already in use (from a while back I guess when I tried Neverwinter maybe) so I de-linked that, but now don’t think my sto/xbox account is linked to anything. So damned stoooopid.

Anyway, I’d like to spend a little money but am not really sure at this point until I get the linking thing straight.

Oh, and how do you take screenshots? Need me some spaceshipporn

If you’re already linked from playing Neverwinter, you should be good and will get your free stuff. It’s not great, mainly I remember the Khan costumes which look dumb next to the average fleet uniform.

Screenshots are going to be handled by the Xbox UI, so double click the big glory white button and choose to take a screenshot. Mine never turn out very well, I think I posted one earlier in the thread, but good luck to you.

STO is giving away free T5 ships this weekend as part of its seventh anniversary celebration. After you load up the game, open the c-store and check under the ‘ships’ tab to claim it.

The ship type is different for each faction. Federation characters get an Avenger Federation Battlecruiser:

Thanks for the heads up.
