Steam Stuff - What Has the Digital Distribution Giant Done Lately?

3 different sales now within a month of each other. How the heck am I supposed to know which one to wait for? heh.

The last two are likely to be functionally identical, if the last few years are anything to go by.

So, I load up Steam this afternoon and am greeted by a giant “Community Recommends” section. The first game listed? Some porn game called Breeders of the Nephelym. It had this helpful user review blurb:

The closest thing I have to porn in my library is the spaceship variety, so is this just based on community “engagement” as opposed to any sort of algorithm?

Anyway, not offended and I figure I can filter this stuff, just surprised at getting a video of a naked female’s ass jiggling on my 65" display as soon as Steam finished loading.

Bah, early access. I have a rule, damnit.

I actually enjoyed Dream Daddy, so based on Steam messed up logic, I expected my Community Recommendations to be littered with dating sims and porn, instead I get great suggestions like Disco Elyisum, 25th edition of 7th Guest and Cat Quest 2. AI War II even made the list… and it says this is based on what the community is reviewing and has nothing to do with me at all.

Which community is doing the recommending? The all encompassing “everyone who owns at least one game on Steam” community? Not the tight-knit, welcoming community I’d want recommending me games 😋

I’m hoping that the later sales will actually have the games that are coming out in October for sale.

I’m starting my sales wishlist now:

Disco Elysium
Children of Morta (cheap enough that it doesn’t hurt to look at huge pixels)
Blasphemous (ditto)
Indivisible
Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair
Untitled Goose Game
The Surge 2
Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch

All released in September or October, all that might have been out long enough in the later sales but not the Halloween sale.

Not on Steam till late 2020. ;)

Sales are good and all, and I know I’ll buy stuff that ends up in my backlog, I need to find a way to buy time to play games. :P

You have more money than time, and I have more time than money. You could hire me to play your games so you don’t feel bad for them collecting dust :-)

Yeah, sorry I was including Epic/Xbox/PSN in my list. Sorry about that. It is the Steam thread, so it makes sense not to do that.

There’s been a bit of activity on the newly created SteamDB entry for The Saboteur, which along with this recent Tweet suggests some EA titles might be making their way to Steam.

Am I a mug for watching that mug?

REMAKE! REMAKE!

Is there some sort of event/sale going on? I assume so, like the Fall sale maybe? I got an email that like 23 of my wishlist games were on sale (which is less than half, but then email is unreliable during Steam sales) and I cannot sign into Steam Friends and the store page is seemingly totally broken. Even links here in Qt3 that go directly to Steam games show an error icon.

Actually, that reminds me to check maybe the store page via web URL. … and yeah, that seems down completely. Yikes. I wonder what the deal is?

It’s the Halloween sale.

Really? I got an email that one of the games on my wishlist was on sale. One! I wonder if my email went out too early, before the big sale started. Or maybe the games on my wishlist aren’t part of the sale.

I suspect, like usual, it will take some time for the entire database to be fully updated.

Stuff like this isn’t helping, neither.

My haul so far, all wishlisted items. Everything was around a billion percent off:

sale

I was tempted to get Darksiders 3 for 66% off, but I’d rather play that on my couch, so I’ll have to hope for an Xbox Sale. Same goes for the good deal on Remnant: From the Ashes.

Man, they can’t even handle the traffic from the Halloween sale, now?

Yeah, this is nuts. Even the actual web page can’t be reached.
