The Avengers: Infinity War Spoiler Thread

I’ll have you know I love Monty Python! In fact pick a random British comedy, and a random American comedy, and I almost guarantee I’ll prefer the British one :)

I’m a Canadian humor guy myself. Bring back SCTV!

One of my best friends is British

And in general, the criticism that the Avengers movie follows the “tired formula of getting a bunch of heroes together to fight a bad guy” falls flat because…it’s called The Avengers! “Getting a bunch of heroes together” is implicit in the title!

The author cites the previous three Marvel movies as fresh takes on the genre, and seems to think that Marvel should get back to doing smaller superhero movies…which I assume is exactly what will happen once this storyline is over. It’s not like every Marvel movie is going to be Infinity War. There’s a reason it took ten years to get here!

Ugh, British comedy is so formulaic: You get some people together, they’re put in a situation (sometimes pedestrian, sometimes unusual), and then they say funny things in British accents! Aren’t we all tired of this same worn-out trope by now???

As a brit reading this from a yank (i hope :D), having tried to watch your steaming pile of comedy poop i think you don’t really have a leg to stand on ;)

I’m just saying, everyone is tired of the same old British comedy formula of “people are put in situations and say funny things”! Here are some examples of British comedies that succeeded by trying something new and original:

The Remains of the Day: Anthony Hopkins and Emma Thompson shine in this British comedy that bucks the trend by not having any jokes! Surprising? Yes. Entertaining? Absolutely!

Ocean’s Eleven: British comedy reaches new heights as we explore the story of Basher Tarr as he gathers an elite group of con artists together to rob a casino! Sir Don Cheadle shines as Britian’s greatest living actor!

Schindler’s List: What’s the last thing you would expect from a British comedy? No laughs! Brazen, yes, but Sir Liam Neeson pulls it off in this most unexpected British comedy that examines the events of the Holocaust. Also, this British comedy is uniquely surprising by being directed by an American!

Is that next to Belize?

This was inevitable.

Not all British comedy is the same, it really depends on what you watch. I assume you mean movies, movies isn’t where British comedy is or was at.

Sorry, I was trying to write in the style of the author of the article, where she’s basically saying, “I’m so tired of superhero movies where they get a group together and fight the bad guy,” when that’s generally what superhero movies are. Poe’s Law strikes again!

His American humour is obviously too subtle for you. ;)

I enjoyed this as a thought experiment:

The only deaths that seem completely not viable are Spiderman and Guardians of the Galaxy. But it would be pretty neat if they could somehow make it work. It would be interesting to see a Black Panther sequel without T’Challa, though, for instance. Or a Dr Strange sequel with the surviving guy from Infinity Wars. I always liked him better than Cumberbatch anyway.

Yes, but even Guardians isn’t impossible. The post credits scene from Guardians 2 shows another group that could take the mantle.

Spidey, however, is the big sticking point for me. That’s because Homecoming was so good, easily the best Spiderman movie, and I say this as someone who absolutely loved the first two McGuire films. I did not expect that, especially since those came out when I was in high school/ college, and so it would be hard to top because of that connection to where I was in my life then.

And a Black Panther with more Shuri is ok with me.

I don’t think they got away, i remember a scene where they do a pan shot to Thor bieng held by the metal strips and seeing a body in valkyrie outfit laying on the floor with other crumpled bodies. i dont think anyone other than Thor survived.

Doesn’t Thor tell the Guardians that Thanos killed half of the asgardians on the ship? I don’t recall those words specifically but at least one of the review videos I’ve watched said this.

Edit: I mean that would imply half were alive. Sry, posts on my phone kinda suck for anything with detail

Thanos is the worst ecologist theres to be. In most developed societies the grown is negative. It happens in europe, japan and other places. No need to rush it, people will die.

Is in development (poor) countries that grown is explosive. And maybe thats something to do with the use of childrens has cheap labor force, a substitute to a pension system or for religious reasons (poor countries are very religious).

What happens if you kill half the people in places like Stable Clone Societies, Insectory Societies, … if you kill half the people in a society like the Logan City, the whole society collapse, the same thing happens in a Insectary Colony if you happens to kill the Queen. If you randomly kill half the people, more than half the people will die. You kill some children’s parents, and these die of starvation.

The REAL reason Thanos want to murder half the universe, is because he is infatuated with his waifu, Ms. Dead.

I read an interview with the director and he addressed that issue. He said that there were survivors and that Valkyrie was one of them.

Indeed! Who needs magic potions when you have tech. Iron Panther to the rescue!
