Trump 2024

Watching his announcement speech. Pretty tame by Trump’s standards, but still plenty of nonsense.

My question is why make the announcement so early? This is like the cherry on top of the GOP’s recent woes.

Why should we assume Trump won’t run in 2028 if he loses (or wins?) in 2024? He’ll be the same age in 2028 as Biden will be in 2024, and Trump’s only way to make money now is running/grifting for office.

Political analysts I’ve read say, he thinks it will reduce the chances he gets prosecuted — the government will be reluctant to prosecute a Presidential Candidate.

Also presumably if he does get prosecuted, he’ll get to bloviate about how he’s being prosecuted in an attempt to sidetrack his campaign — leading to better grifting opportunities.

I’m planning to sit back and enjoy the two-year GOP civil war.

I am impressed that Ted Cruz has taken the position of, “The GOP needs to stand for something. We have chosen to stand for sucking Trump’s dick and grifting our own voters.”

MAGAGA?

Maybe he thinks that as well. But it’s mostly for the grift. He did the same thing in 2017, filing for 2020 candidacy on his Inauguration Day, well before candidates normally do. Once his campaign is up and running, he can collect cash and then spend it on himself, er his campaign, as per this NPR article from 2017:

Trump’s … campaign paid millions of dollars to fly on his aircraft, compensate his relatives for unspecified campaign activities and rent space in Trump properties, including Trump Tower in New York, the Trump golf club in Bedminster, N.J., and Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

Gonna be funny watching Trump run as an outsider who has also actually been the President of the United States already.

I think the political reason is he scares off potential rivals by getting in this early, if Trump waits, then Rubio or Cruz may decide to try again. Now that Trump is running, Rubio or Cruz are less likely to run, and probably more importantly their potential donors aren’t going to invest in known losers.

Really the only way to stop the guy from running is to throw him in jail.

Really, the odds of actually getting him put into jail may be up to the willingness of his fellow Republicans to throw him under the bus.

THey won’t, it runs a real risk of splitting the party/getting primaried.

What’s funny is that Trump has already split the party, and shown that the part that’s still there with him IS TOO SMALL TO WIN.

(hate to compare as the two situations couldn’t be more different…)

I remembered Debs, ran from prison, and got a surprising number of votes. I’d like to think being a convicted felon would dramatically decrease his contributions. But I wouldn’t b bet big money on that.

Ok so the guy needs to be dead.

Vanky is out:

Hard to say whether she had an attack of conscious, just got tired of it, or is miffed that her attempt to make Javanka America’s sweethearts flopped so hard.

This will have a huge effect on media coverage, though: Maggie Haberman will now be forced to write puff pieces directly about Trump himself.

I think we can safely remove the first possibility.

Hahaha

Is this like the reverse of narcolepsy?

Trump’s speech was incredibly long and dull. He went on for over an hour. He was mostly just reading the teleprompter and bragging about how great his term was and how everything’s gone to hell in two years. All the news shows–even Hannity–broke away early.
