Hogwarts Legacy - WB makes a full AAA RPG for Harry Potter

Can you change the FOV on PC?

Possible. It’s really minor as there are ways to fast travel all over the place once you find an area. This breakdown pretty much matches my initial thoughts. As we have had a few epic fails in recent memory I’m super happy this isn’t one of them.

For me it made the decision to wait easy. In a year the game will be patched up, cheap and content complete.

If it’s one thing I hate more than platform exclusives, it’s garbage that tries to get me to watch Twitch streamers. NO THANK YOU.

People in the 90’s : “video games will one day be like movies that you can control!”

People in the 2020’s : watches video streams of other people playing video games

Well between the PC Gamer article and the PS5 exclusive quest I went ahead and pre ordered from Sony with only hours to go. I suspect it will be something I have fun with, but maybe don’t totally complete. We’ll see!

It definitely sells video games, though. I made the mistake of going to watch some videos of this and now I have a terrible feeling I’m going to buy it very soon.

Hopefully the PC port is a mess, so that I can keep chipping away at my backlog instead.

Wait, is this actually a Souls-like? Can we Avada Kedavra or be Avada Kedavra’d in a one hit KO?

Dunno, but the last clip seemed that way. Big boss with massive HP, big attacks with dodge requirements, etc. Personally I’m not a fan but it is what it is. I just can’t tolerate being forced to slow turn with a mouse.

I think the game always aims at the target in this one, so you don’t turn and target during battle, that’s automatic.

Trying to link accounts is not a fun time right now.

How long do you have to “pre-order”? I thought it is still 3 days from release and this is just the early access. Im trying to read up and watch streams to see if I need this now or for what platform.

I preordered on Xbox. 3 day advance playing. Pretended I was in England so I could play.

Did the tutorial ish stuff and am running around outside a bit around Hogsmead. Fairly enjoyable. Cool graphics and animations in the castle. Enjoy the exploration for sure. Lots to discover and find. The combat will take a bit to get used to the combos and switching spells.

It’s worth It I think but need to get more into it to check the progression systems.

Preload is up in Steam!

Preloading! Pretty much all I know about this game is that a) it’s been preceded by internet controversy about the garbage woman who wrote the novels, and b) you go to wizard school.

Even though I bailed on the last back-to-school game I tried, I’ve been longing to replay Bully since at least 2006. So maybe this will finally my chance, but with spells. I aim to find out tomorrow and I look forward to discussing it with y’all.

In the german Gamestar mag they lament the state of the PC version:

Our test version on the PC suffered from regular and very severe performance drops and graphic bugs. Not only cutscenes were difficult to enjoy, but also some fights took place in slow motion and spoiled the fun of the game. Therefore, we devalue the PC version by 10 points. This gives Hogwarts Legacy an overall rating of 78 points.

Update February 7th, 2023: An update is now available, but it has only changed very little about the technical problems of the PC version. We continue to notice FPS drops and annoying bugs on all test systems. At the start of Early Access, we can therefore still not unreservedly recommend the PC version and stand by our devaluation.

At the moment, judging from my experience and that of my colleagues, the following applies: No matter what hardware you have - you have to be prepared for problems on Windows computers. Below is a brief overview of the most serious annoyances that I and all GS testers have encountered so far before I describe my experience in more detail.

severe drops in frame rate
graphic error
crashes
Objects and shadows pop in

Even the extremely fast RTX 4090 AMP Extreme from Zotac sometimes has FPS problems with Hogwarts Legacy

Yeah, the consensus around PC technical issues will keep this on the wait and see list for me. Once there is a solid PC version running some weeks down the road, I’ll probably get it (on sale if I can) because I like this sort of game and more or less enjoy the Harry Potter setting. Never made it through the last book I don’t think though. Sort of burned out on it by then.

I woke up at 5am to get some gaming time in before work. An hour and a half later, I’m stopping for coffee and getting the day started. Can’t wait to get back to it later this afternoon!

As a console gamer, I’m usually a bit jealous of the performance and graphics that PC gamers achieve. This time around I’m thankful that the PS5 version seems to have gotten all of the attention from the Quality Assurance group.

I’ve played to just past waking up in the Slytherin common room and the performance has been totally fine. VRR is working well, the graphics look great, and everything has been smooth so far. I can’t say that I’m super sensitive to the occasional frame rate drop, though. Playing in Balanced mode.

Tiny story spoiler detail from the very beginning for fans of the books: I like how the Thestrals appeared once the Ministry escort died in front of you.

The store page countdown made me think it unlocked last night, but this morning I went to play and that looks like it’s for the early access perk of the deluxe edition, which I did not opt for.
